Hi guys,

So tried to install this. Went through the guide they have on the ubuntu site for making a bootable disk. Problem is all the instructions are for image files (img) and not iso files. Now there is no img download for 9.10 netbook remix. I have a mac only instruction i can find online is diskutils dd. Gonna try some other fancy windows software, hopefully it works... Will keep u posted!

I also installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my Acer A110 this weekend. So far I'm very impressed. Downloaded the standard Ubuntu 9.04 ISO and used unetbootin to create a bootable usb installation disk. It installed without any issues, everything works great (vga, sound, network, wifi etc.) without having to look for drivers or anything. Haven't worked on Linux in years, so I'll see how it goes...

Also look at usb-creator

Found and used an app that i see mention in your post. Unetbootin. It can make a bootable disc of a iso. Needed to run it on a linux machine thought (had 9.04 on an old machine). Installed and am now posting from my netbook in ubuntu netbook remix.

Thanks for the reply kilos.

I really like this layout, makes things very easy. Had an issue with sound codecs, installed VLC and it play everything. Had an issue with the wifi, but I just installed bcmwl kernel and it works. Running on an HP 110c. Its quite awesome..

Pleasure, I encountered the same problem but with the beta release.

I just installed alternate install on my netbook - schweetness .... going to upgrade it to remix now.

9.10 rocks !!!!!!!!

Its performing way better than 9.04 and that is even without any of my tweaks.

Got remix running, it was only 4MB download for the xtra packages. I love it. Tried the KDE Remix but it is still buggy, the Gnome Remix is actually perfect for me. Cannot wait for the UbuntuOne servers to be running so that I can sync my tomboy notes.

Let us know what tweaks u run. Bought this netbook yesterday, definetly liking netbook remix way more than XP SP3. I hear 7 is quite cool. Thinking of upgrading to a 500 gig drive, and tri-booting, netbook remix, 7 and trying a hackintosh. :)

Just did my dist-upgrade and UbuntuOne is working (too late to do TomBoy notes sync thing now but will give it a spin this weekend).

On the tweaks all I do is set the "/tmp" to ramdisk but with the new remix I might not need to anymore. I have the SSD version and previously my netbook was a snail. I'm also running 1,5GB RAM so it helps.

I am keen to get an SSD, and will order another gig of ram next week. I am trying something, can't seem to get it right. I installed rdesktop (so i can remote and control a windows box from here). I run the command with options with no problem from the terminal. Trying to make a shortcut on the desktop. I go to the main menu in system, preferences. If I add the application and run rdesktop serverAddress it works. As soon as i add the options to set screen size and try run the shortcut it doesnt work. Any ideas ?

Ok so i found the problem. Using a % to set the screen size doesnt work through the command you can add to menu. Enter is the wxh that i wanted for the option to choose screen size, and it works. This operating system is quite AWESOME!!! Where can i get a cheap 80 or 120 gig solid state?

Some more feedback: My implementation of a RAMDisk for my /tmp folders did not work (OK, I did do it late at night). But the performance on my netbook is so awesome I don't need it actually.

One nice thing is that if you put in some funky config like I did for my RAMDisk then the recovery mode is far easier to use.

Bluetooth on this distro is perfect now - at last. Plug 'n Play and it even allows me to use my wifes cheap Nokia 3600 Slide as modem.

As an out of the box distro this is perfect. Ubuntu has taken Netbooks to the next step and the coming months is going to be an exciting period for use Netbook owners as other distros while catch up and continue to push forward.

I using it, although i stripped out all the netbook remix stuff. So i think i just have plain old Karmic :P

Must agree.

I still like the moblin-interface, and look forward to seeing that being developed.

The Kubuntu netbook remix I found to be a bit slow, and would rather wait a couple of releases for the bugs to be ironed out.

Thanks garethmcc. I have been looking around, and they are quite ridiculous.

Installed chrome on my netbook now, using it as the default browser. Must say, it is pretty awesome :) i have gotten quite used to this netbook keyboard (never gonna compete with the mac board) but i would rate its better than the one on the dell 14" i have at work (build quality wise). Any advise on an app for playing music? Using VLC currently, not the best option. I want to get something like itunes, not keen to run virtual box though. Anything good out there ?

Heres a tip for all you guys trying to install ubuntu on ur laptops or netbooks without an optical drive. Go to any pc running lets say windows. Mount the Ubuntu image. Run ubuntu setup now choose "try ubuntu without installing"

Great now you're in ubuntu. Ubuntu has a bootable USB creator. Run it make a bootable usb drive of the ubuntu image.

Use this usb drive to install ubuntu on netbook.
(I've not tried this but it should work, let me know)

Agree - seems that moblin development is lacking though. I try it every now and again and its a cool concept. The new Ubuntu Remix seems to share some of the same concepts.

The KNR is more to show what can be done. Its great and I really like it but since I cannot use my 3G in its Network manager I'm giving it a skip. At work we are keeping the one netbook on KNR as the one guy who uses it the most prefers KDE.

So I will see but by 10.04 KNR will be a full working distro.

So next year we are going to be spoilt with choice with the next round :D of releases.
