But there is an appetite, I just refreshed that site a few times and the amount grew by $20K to $30K each time I refresh (few minutes interval of course). Allmost a million. 32 to go

So then the crowdfunding idea is working, at least initially... Let's see come August 31st.

What will the regular price be?

Edit: $830 that's helluva cheap for the components used.

That phone looks incredibly beautiful. If I had money to throw around I would definately get one.

What are the odds of any service providers picking this up? Or would that go against the indie ethos?

Not sure what that term means.

I asked Jannie a long tme ago when rumours starting to come out about Ubuntu doing a phone OS if he thinks Vodacom would be interested in this. He said they certainly would have a look at it ... but it would all depend on viablity etc. Or something like that. I cant remember his exact words .... but he seemed reservedly keen. Time will tell I guess.

Canonical have signed some pretty big networks up for the OS though.

If this is successful I wonder how long till Samsung develops something better?

I like the idea that you get phone functionality in Ubuntu. Will it be running stock Android?

I don't think that this is going to work after the initial momentum wears off. (I could be wrong)
The Enterprise Bundle works out to $8000 a phone. If it was $6000 - maybe.
Still hoping the OS makes an appearance for other handsets.

Funny thing - One of the other very hot Indiegogo campaigns is for the exact opposite.
a Credit Card size phone with integrated tracker.
Its over 300% funded for a ring-ring phone for $50.

I think the price is right for the hardware they are offering.

However as someone who doesn't buy phones as cash devices you won't find me contributing for a device, not even as a hardcore Ubuntu-fan.

I might throw them $20 though.
