I have managed to get Quake 4 up and running. I have a few questions though:

1 If I have an nVidia 512mb 8400 why can't I run any res above 800X600

2 While playing the game it keeps changing into a window in the middle of it where I lose complete control. Of the game and Gnome. How do I go back into the game fullscreen. Is there a setting change?

2 Is the most irritating. But I'd like to know about 1 too.

Thanks.

You did install the latest linux kernel and Nvdia linux driver?

I had no problems, ran on a 6600 but Q3 is more fun, rail though walls mod is fun. You can easily compile a customised Q3 in a few seconds with ccache on.

Geforce 8300 and 8400
In the summer of 2007, NVIDIA released the entry level GeForce 8300 and 8400 series of graphics cards. Both series are based on the G86 core and as of December 2007, both series only have a GS version. The GeForce 8300 is also only available in the OEM market, and thus cannot be found in retail outlets. These graphics cards are targeted mainly for those who just need a discrete graphics solution, as the video card performs poorly in intense 3D applications such as high-end video games.

I think the 64bit bus on the 8400 is limiting the Resolution in Quake 4, It's basicaly ment for workstations :)
