Hi

Just tried out UNR9.10 on my Lenovo Ideapad S10e - and it works a real treat.

What other netbook releases is available which you can run as a live CD?

Regards

There is an Arch Linux one, ArchOne. Its just gnome / kde / openbox. You can also try Moblin.

UNR is the best if you like the eyecandy where an Arch install is for speed. Personally switched to Arch on my Aspire One and will never look back.

Do the Fn buttons work with Arch? One of the reasons why I'm sticking with Ubuntu on my netbook is the Voria addons for the Samsung NC10 (and others now too).

I always though the Fn buttons are hardware based and not dependant on software?
They normally do something very specific, related to the hardware and need drivers to talk to the OS (eg switching off wireless, webcam or changing screen resolution). You normally get a CD full of drivers from the manufacturer, with the machine (all for win of course).

Give it a bit of time for tweaks, bugs and optimizations.

Then I'll give it a go.

Ah, this one is seriously solid (touch wood) get it now and give it a try. I used to have 9.10 UNR on my Aspire One, installed 10.04 on it last night and is much much better!

Going to give 10.04 a spin on my netbook this weekend. Will see if it performs the same as my Arch install. I only need my netbook for ssh and my wifes uses it to do some spreadsheet work every few months.

That sounds like a good plan.

I used 9.10 UNR on my netbook and thought it was horrible. I think Karmic is probably one of my worst releases that I have used. Thank goodness Lucid fixed all of that.

10.04 is still steaming ahead on my netbook :) - although this time I didn't install the UNR version, just the plain vanilla 32bit.
