I'm intrigued, what does Mint offer over Ubuntu?

Will wait for Mark and team to fix the mess and give us something decent with the LTE release next year.

Just a bit worried that they are set on Unity for Ubuntu's future.

.... But it makes more sense (to me) than Mark Shuttleworth escapade to oblivion, the abomination known as Unity. Lefebvre is trying to give users want they want -- a better GNOME 2.x type of experience and not some whacked out interface that is more 'usable' to some unknown group of mystical usability experts.

Yes, but I don't really like the other distros. Ubuntu = South African.

Actually its not, it was started by an UK company that was bought by an Ex-Pat who lives in the UK.

The fact that an South African born citizen, that now holds British citizenship, bought it does not make it Proudly South African.

I still think Mark did something exceptional and created huge interest in Linux with Ubuntu.

So what, he has now decided to go off on a tangent which I really don't care for and there are many other good options out there even Ubuntu based like Xubuntu, Kubuntu, Lubuntu etc. Don't let blind loyalty dictate what you use, maybe if enough people ditch Ubuntu/Unity they will come around but I doubt it.

ponder, this is exactly how I feel. instead of contributing to the development of existing DE like gnome, I feel going this route defeats purpose of FOSS growth and acceptance. unless, mark has done his homework and knows something we do not.

I am loving th gnome shell--it think is has lots of potential, is easy and now comes with all sorts of extensions and themes, the user can just install without any issues. look atnpinguy os or even riome--these are Ubuntu based but use gnome shell--customized for ease of use and are fast and respinsive., unlike unity--i find it sluggish and unintuitive. but hey, time will tell...
