Ubuntu - tooltip delays

Hey guys

Bizarre problem - since upgrading to 10.10, my tooltips are taking an annoyingly long time to appear when hovering over something. It seems to be generalised thing - hovering over links in a browser or buttons in an app - there is an extra long delay (couple of long seconds) before anything comes up - and it's driving me batty.

Is there somewhere to set this delay and make it shorter?

Think you'll have to post that on the www.ubuntuforums.org , should get an answer.

I've given up on Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit for now, rolling back to 10.04 LTS on my desktop.

Just isn't a smooth experience.

*Ubuntu 10.10 32-bit is running smoothly on my notebook.

Not a single reply there either. You'd think it'd be an option somewhere. Driving me mad.

Pity to hear that.

What was the installed amount of RAM you've had when running the 64-bit version?

Tried other desktop themes to see if that resolves the problem?

Also, have you turned off visual effects? Can be found in System - Preferences - Appearance - Visual Effects

Same thing with another theme. Compiz is currently managing my visual effects and I'm quite fond of it, so I'd rather not turn them off. I ran the same configuration in Lucid though, doesn't make sense for it to be causing problems now.

Only reports 7.7GB out of 8GB RAM - and my graphics card was properly installed, so not sure what grabbed the other 300MB.

I got short-changed by Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit. :p

Just disable it and see what happens. You can always re-enable it.

Perhaps give this a try, Software Center > Get Software > Themes & Tweaks > Pop-Up Notifications.. "Set your pop-up notification preferences"

Installed 10.10 on my notebook tonight and wow, it's really good. Installed Google Chromium browser, did all the updates, modified my "panel", configured dual screen display, now browsing and listening mp3's.. Awesome OS!
