Ubuntu Touch success

Dont care, just give me that ubuntu for android already!

Ubuntu for Android came out ages ago. It was a dual-boot type of arrangement with both OS running at the same time.

This will replace that tho, since Ubuntu Touch now does all your phone functions, there'll be no need for Ubuntu for Android. But it's using the Android kernel, so hopefully the boys at XDA will port it to loads of older devices, so we won't just be limited to getting it on new phones / tabs.

Am due for an upgrade on the 1st August .. when I first saw Ubuntu for Android, I was so intrigued. It seemed like a fantastic idea, phone and PC in one device. That was about 2 years ago .. and back then, I thought that by this upgrade, this would be in full swing, and new powerful multi-code phones would be available leveraging this massive potential ....

Boy was I wrong .. looking around now, I would buy a phone specifically if it had "Runs Ubuntu desktop" on the box .. but it appears none else gives a toss about this .. in reality, I feel this is the future of computing .. docking stations all over the place, you just go dock your phone, and instantly have access to your home PC, at airports, at work, at malls, at your mates house ... seems like wonderful functionality .. I just cant see why we don't have better options around this functionality already ....

Looks like I need to wait another 2 years ..

I feel you. This really is the way to go. Just needs a bit more time I guess. At least somebody's pushing the idea, even if it's not one of the "big boys".

Sadly one of the big boys will one day just launch a similar product (probably inferior) to huge fanfare and pull the rug right from under Canonical. "We've been having it" counts for nothing if you don't have "we've been selling it!"

Come on Shuttleworth, get something out there!

Is there even a fully functional Ubuntu Touch out there for ANY device?
They should just release the software into the wild as is and then keep updating it till it's fully functional.
Google glass anyone? Even Android in the beginning.

Speak under correction but I think they demo'd it on a Nexus. 4 if I'm not mistaken. So it should be fully functional on that at least.
I also think you can download it, but it's not as easy as downloading normal Ubuntu - i.e. you have to dig around for the link, since it's still very much in beta and they basically want devs and oems to test it out.

That does suck, but at the end of the day, we need the functionality. If they can prove the concept well enough that Android or somebody adopts it, that's good enough for me, for now. As long as I can dock my phone and not need to carry a laptop anymore, I'll be happy.

Shuttleworth, has come a long way and Ubuntu is a thorn in MS side. I support Ubuntu operating system 13.04, Good Work.
Giving MS a run for there money, Keep it up. Its about giving us an option to not being forced to use exploited software.

Ubuntu Touch can be installed right now, but it is still somewhat limited and useless.
