One player doesn't make the team. If Samuel Etto is back, it wont guarantee Barcelona a win. If the rest of the team play as bad as they did yesterday, Liverpool has a good chance of snatching another victory.
 
Liverpool are def favorites to get through now. Barca need to score at least two goals to win or draw, depending if Liverpool scores. That's a big task especially at Anfield.

Looks like Lille has filed a complaint to UEFA. Are they trying to deflect the issue that they did not provide good security to their staidums? They dont seem to mention anything about their problems and still talk about the controversial goal.
 
I looked at the Barca team sheet, not many recognisable players, but then again, i hardly watch any soccer. But i'm glad L'pool won. Benitez always seems to find the best out of his players in the C/league.

but saviola missed a couple of great shots which eto would have buried

your need a clinical finisher in your team and he is the best ive ever seen at taking his chances

if he plays liverpool go out

you'll see liverpool beat barca in barca but will go and draw with sheffield united over the weekend

The French side yesterday announced their intention to appeal against UEFA's decision to dismiss their protest against Ryan Giggs' winning goal at the Stade Felix-Bollaert.

European football's governing body will consider their case again this week after the Ligue One outfit refused to accept the original ruling.

A statement released on Lille's website, www.losc.fr, said: 'President (Michel) Seydoux and the board of LOSC have decided to appeal against the decision made on Friday by the European authority.'

Lille are complaining that referee Eric Braamhaar should have blown his whistle before Giggs took the free-kick that ultimately won the match for United.

'The true question is to determine how the Mancunian players came to take so quickly the free-kick that led to the goal, as they showed signs of a different intention,' added the statement.

Lille refer to quotes attributed to Giggs after the match, which appear to say it was the referee who suggested the Wales winger take the free-kick quickly.

The statement continued: 'Following these principles, LOSC have therefore taken the decision to go through with a fight that seems correct to them.'

Lille also claimed last week that Braamhaar 'warned the kicker he should wait for his whistle before restarting the game' at every other free-kick.

The French club have also reiterated their players were not attempting a 'walk-off' when they made their way to the sideline moments after the goal was allowed to stand.

Seydoux at the time said the team were merely protesting against the official, but added that 'it was not an attempt to get the game abandoned'.

The statement continued: 'At no moment did (coach) Claude Puel have the intention of making his team leave the pitch.'

Lille claimed they had not been told UEFA affords clubs 24 hours to make a complaint after a match.

The French club could also face charges of breaches of security and safety regulations with respect to last week's game, after an apparent crush in the away supporters' enclosure caused by overcrowding.

Utterly ridiculous.

I think Lille should be thrown out and United get a bye into the next round after their disgraceful performance both on the pitch and in the stands.

I think Lille are trying to deflect the issue that they couldn't manage the ground properly and sitting on the goal thing. If the goal wasn't scored, I dont think they could sit behind anything and hide from the truth.

They should be thrown out ASAP. Look at Feyernoord.

Gilberto Silva has revealed he suffered racist taunts for the first and only time as an Arsenal player at the hands of the fans of tomorrows oponents, PSV.

However the Brazilian powerhouse also revealed how the incident did not faze him as, the professional that he is, he was fully focused on the match.

'I never experienced this kind of thing in particular, but when I first came to Arsenal we had it,' he said.

'We were playing in Holland and it was against PSV.'

'At the end, some of the fans started to sing monkey songs. But I just noticed it at the end of the game.'

'The players were talking about it. They were upset but, for me, it didn't have any effect because I couldn't understand it and I was fully focused on the match.'

'That was the only time I've really had this particular kind of problem.'

Was really good to see Larsson score but scoring means that it's disappointing now to see him go. What a great 10 weeks contribution it was. Brought in as a temp solution but he really played like it was the team he's played for in the last 10 years. The enthusiasm was just fantastic. SAF should just ask if Lars wants to stay a couple of games more.
 
arsenal should never have brought henry on, they kickin psv's ass then henry came on and things changed

I agree. Ask him to see out the season and win the treble with us.

Silvestre now out. Real injury concerns. Moaninho can shove his comments about our 'luck' up his arse. Whatever we win this year, we will really have deserved it!

Under sweeping changes suggested for Europe's elite club competition, the proposal - mooted at UEFA's European club forum - could see the winner of each country's main knockout tournament included in a new end-of-season play-off system or even granted an automatic Champions League berth.

William Gaillard, UEFA's communications director, told the Guardian: 'A number of clubs have expressed an interest in this situation.

'We are not against it in principle and if this is the view of the majority there is no reason why we shouldn't do it. The clubs that we have heard from have responded quite favourably.'

Gaillard said that although discussions had so far been informal, interest had been strongest from 'a very large German club, a Spanish club and a very large Scottish club', who the Guardian claims are Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Rangers respectively.

Gaillard said the idea would be put to UEFA's new strategic committee in June, which in turn would make direct recommendations to the executive committee.

I am not sure I like this idea either.

For me, the winners of each of the strong European leagues should qualify automatically, the runners-up can play off against each other.

The weaker leagues can have only the winners in. 16 teams max. One group stage, then quarter-finals, then the winners will really be Champions of Europe. Like in 1999 :D

They'll never change it back - it's all about revenue.

Maybe they could take the 17 teams and have them play all against each other at least once (random home games but equal number), with the top 4 progressing to Semis (home & away game) and 1 game Final. (similar to the Super 14 Rugby or now the World Cup Cricket)
 
So Quaterfinals first leg starts today and tomorrow. PSV going to Anfield with a weakened squad. United should play the way they do in the league and Roma should be a walk over. AC-Bayern is match of the round. Bayern should get through though.
