Hello guys,

Laptop: HP 250 G5

My girlfriend bought this at Makro. It had Windows 10 on ( Not sure which Win 10 but anyway ). Thing was lagging so she said she wanted to go back to Windows 7 on the laptop.

HP's BIOS was tricky for me, because it was in UEFI mode and it didn't want to boot up from the original Windows 7 CD that was in the drive. So I changed it to Legacy in the BIOS, changed CD-ROM to first bootable device and got Windows 7 installed. ( I formatted the hard drive and deleted all partitions in the Windows 7 setup menu thingy ).

But now when I plug in an external HDD or USB or anything, it doesn't pick it up. External HDD is definitely working on my Win 7 PC, but her's doesn't even pick it up.

I think I messed up when I formatted the hard drive during Win 7 setup. Because it gave some error that it couldn't install on whatever partition, so I just deleted them all and created one big partition.

Anyways, I think the problem is that this hard drive is now formatted in some way ( UEFI or Legacy ) or whatever and now it's giving problems.

My Question:

How do I just format this HDD and put Windows 7 64-bit back on and have it work like a normal friggen laptop again?

Can any of you okes please help me?

Thank you

My guess its got nothing to do with the install, more so about drivers.

Check HP's site and install their usb, bios and such drivers for Windows 7.

Did you try USB2.0 port? Check in Device Manager for missing USB drivers.

Hello guys,

Getting the drivers I can do... But with NO LAN or wifi or USB drivers, how do I get the files onto the laptop to install them? LOL

I'll have to burn them onto a DVD I guess.

Correct. I wonder, did your sister received driver and utility DVD disk from Macro?

Girlfriend. Erm, I'm not sure. I didn't ask her. But HP does have the drivers on the net when I checked yesterday. Let me try this DVD thing and I'll get back to you guys.

Thx so much for everyone who replied though.

You probably need USB 3 drivers.

Have a look here for some good info:

Edit:

I think these are the drivers I used when I took my Windows 10 HP back to Win 7:

Edit again: Also look here, this helped a lot:

Does that laptop have Kaby Lake or Skylake processor?

Hey guys,

I did get sorted yes. It was a driver issue.

USB's working, display driver worked etc etc

Thank you so much guys!

Glad, you sorted it out. Saddly, Skylake is the last Intel CPU you can install Windows 7.
