My problem exactly! Only in RSA is such a simple thing, so incredibly difficult to communicate (by you-know-who). The reasons being i)The incurable Pathological Lying Syndrome - PLS plaguing our politicians (when the sufferer opens his mouth, lies come out uncontrollably), ii) A Forked Tongue Syndrome- FTS, characterized by an inability to speak plain language (a patient is just comfortable speaking with a forked tongue) and iii) an incurable Acquired or Inborn Greed Syndrome - AIGS, characterized by a clear unwillingness to loosen the sufferer's grasp on the South African consumer's nuts.

So, when they suddenly say that the laying of Uhurunet is UNDER WAY, you immediately wonder whether it is another of the games they play. These guys laugh at us every time they meet for a social. I suppose the conversation is like "Mr Director General, 'Affordable broadband for economic development!'" (wink). Then everyone roars with laughter. 'Uhurunet, under the auspices of Nepad!' Another round of laughter. Then the DG verbalize what everyone knows very well: "We have a lot invested in the incumbent operator. There is no way we are going to jeopardize our own investment just for some internet junkies. Just keep promising and give nonsense press releases every now and then. That should keep them busy for a while. Remember, we are the intellectuals here. So, under no circumstance should you speak clearly. Confuse the morons...and by the way, Well done Shongwe!" Everyone nods thoughtfully.

Meanwhile, my ire is at an all-time high!
