Has anybody been through a UIF claim lately? Need some advice on how best to go about it, I am trying to avoid one of the companies that do it on your behalf...

Best way is to go to the department of labour office yourself, make sure you have you last 3 payslips, a UI-19 form completed by your employer, proof of account, and you ID.

Also take with enough clothes, water and food for three days, an inflatable mattress, a sleeping bag, Tabbard and a box of Calmettes.

if a company exists that does it for, use them. the uif claim process is really exceptionally corrupt and fcked up for normal plebs.

It suppose to be easy task, but department of labour, HA, Traffic, big hassle ahead...

Thanks all, I had a colleague who was retrenched in the first round 18 months ago, I can't recall which HA office he said he went to but he said it took 10 - 15 minutes and was largely painless. I'll investigate one of the companies that does it on your behalf, my wife used one when claiming for maternity leave after our first son was born but it took forever to get paid out...

Sort of. Tried to help the domestic claim for when she was on maternity leave but they didn't pay out and after couple of visits to home affairs gave up. A close friend claimed for maternity and they only paid out after a year or more and had to pay a bribe and get a company to assist. Not sure for retrenchments. But yeah, completely corrupt and incompetent. Just another ANC lifestyle tax. Even if you do get a company to assist it is not guaranteed.

I wouldn't do that. You're claiming UIF, which isn't much so you should try and get as much of it out as possible. Sometimes we just have to stick through the pain.

Go on Tuesday - Thursday.

You will need a certified copy (not older than 3 months) of ID. Last 3 payslips. UIF UI-19 Form filled in by your ex-employer and stamped proof of banking details. You can print the banking details off your banking app in colour for that or go to a branch.

Dept of Labour will ask you "What are you doing"? You will say "Looking for a job".

Take a camping chair with, and a small umbrella, don't drink anything coz you will leave the queue to go pee

I think maternity claims are a little more complicated there are more working parts you need the Drs forms, employee forms and home affairs forms.

First child will be 4 next year, took forever 1 year + calling and calling first few times told docs were missing and would resend everything again and again eventually got told to send the docs to a individuals mail box directly and got paid out shortly after.

Second child 18 months would call weekly and get told they will escalate as its been approved but not paid. This happened for months. The mail box mentioned above bounced. Found a lady who deals with claims. Paid her sent all the docs was paid in under a week.

I believe the whole system is now corrupt and the only way to get paid is use a consultant.
The consultants have stalled the system so that people have to use a consultant and they get paid.

Hopefully retrenchment is different.

I fully understand money is tight after being retrenched but you will waste so much time effort and drive yourself mad trying to deal with them.
I would try for a month if you don't win get a consultant.

I think the UIF is going into business rescue.
As said there is so much corruption with them.
Our gardener passed away a couple of months ago.The "family" arrives out our place and handed me a death certificate which was forged.
They couldn't even spell Johannesburg as the place of death on the certificate, meanwhile he died in Zimbabwe.
He's lived in SA legally for over 30 years.

Update: I submitted a benefits claim online around two weeks back, still waiting for something, anything...
Their online portal looks as if it is working, but it is not. I cannot remember the details, but there was some kind of a dispute between the dept of Labour and a service provider. This has not yet been resolved.

The online portal has not worked since August of last year. Currently the only way to register for, or claim continuation of benefits, is to go there in person.
