Hi.

I applied for a line on the 24th of June. I was told that there are no ports at the exchange and that the ETA is sometime in August. I phoned Telkom late in July and they told me that the ETA is August 7.

August 7 came and went and I didn't hear anything from them. Over the weekend of the 8th I installed the cable from the wall mount to my living room, mounted the modem, plugged it in and the line came up. Thought ok the technician probably forgot to phone me or update the order.

Yesterday when I got home the line was down. Phoned Telkom and the gentleman on the other end said that the line that was installed at my house was allocated to someone else and that there is no ETA for my line due to "unforeseen circumstances" but I'm probably looking at September.

I don't know the underlying details but surely if my house had a line, then there is capacity for my line, not so?

Is there anything I can do or anyone I can speak to about getting this resolved soonest?

Thanks in advance.

Quick update.

I phoned Telkom this morning and the gentleman on the other end said that the new expected date of service delivery is 30 Sept.

So to sum up my situation, not only did I wait almost 2 months for a line, but once it became active, it worked for 2 weeks and now it's going to be down for another MONTH.

This is really infuriating. Honestly I think Telkom should give me a Telkom Mobile sim. This is literally like giving a baby some candy and then taking it away again just to watch it cry.

Thats really unlucky mate, I stay in the area and didn't have a long wait (2 weeks?) for my line to be put in 1.5 years ago, they never mentioned anything about having no free ports.

Update:

Phoned Telkom for an update this morning, was told the expected date of service is August 7 -_-

There are apparently no notes about the 30th of September and that the last comment on my ticket was made in July.

Every single time I phone I get a different story.

Any recommendations guys? I am starting to feel like it will go on like this forever.

I also live in Uitzicht. I had a telkom line but it was horrible to say the least, and have cancelled it more than a year ago.

You have two options:

1. Telkom LTE. We are covered here and I get +- 40Mbps download speed ( It's expensive )
2. Get a WISP installed. I am on SprintNet which works fine but we are on the boundry limits of how far they will go. Hence I can't get more than +-5 Mbps up and down.

Please go the 123net website and go to apply for Fibre in our area. It's a non binding request, so please sign up.

Apparently they start rolling out when they 300 requests. We are far from that, but worth trying at least and informing any neighbours / friends / family you might have in the neighbourhood.
