Hi there guys,

I dont if this is possible...

I just spoke to a bud of mine in DBN, he says the company he works for has a normal 512k telkom Line but their ISP is located in the UK, they pay a few pounds and can surf unlimited uncapped unshaped...

Tell me if this is possible or if u guys have heard of similiar setups.

Thanks

interesting... I wouldn't put money on it... That would be like using up a international line/call to the uk... But if it does work yay... but latency would be atronomical. i donno maybe google it.

No, have not heard of this, and with the way things are setup here it sounds improbable. However, if it is happening, I for one would like to know the details.

i actually dont beleive its possible but this insists it is, and he is really jacked up in his IT and I know he's not a bullsh!tter...

but if it is possible just imagine what we can achieve...

I just emailed 7 uk isps regarding the topic...

Let's find out!!!

4 minutes for a uk isp to reply....thats service:-)

excuse me but **** THEM

unfortunately we cannot fulfill your requirments. As this is not a legal scenario, we have had to pass your rquest to the relevant authorities for them to investigate

5 to go

How can asking them if it is possible need to be passed on to authorities to investigate?

It's like asking is it possible to walk accross a road and someone going to the cops to tell them that you intended to jaywalk, and that you should be fined for it.

thank you, that's also what I immediately replied.

In my email I even asked if in case it was possible if it was legal as well.

That's what came out:

Hi,

my last email was a joke. We get a LOT of crank emails from all over the place, your's simply sounded like you were joking with your question.

Oh well, thank you.

No it's not a joke question at all. We here is South Africa are desperately looking for ways to get uncapped and unshaped ADSL for less than 250€ (I don't know how much that is in Pounds). That is way at the moment some people are trying to explorer the way of using an overseas provider.

So can you tell me if it is theoretically possible to use on UK provider, whether it is against policies or not does not matter at this point. It is just about the possibility.

Kind regards

THEM
Hi,

no, unfortunately it is not possible and I would forsee never will be.

Kind Regards

At least they had a sense of humor..

someone, I find it difficult to believe that an ADSL line can do PPPoE authentication with a UK provider. In fact, I think its impossible, as telkom own the ATM backbones and therefore probably route all PPPoE requests to the correct destinations.

Correct me if I'm wrong

I would like to see a screen shot or two of this guys connection to a uk provider... what is the uk ips's name ect details need details to check it.

Umm... is your bud working for a multi-national? I would not be one bit surprised if a corporate arrangement exists - that would form the basis for your mate's access capability, and would effectively have nothing to do with a local provider, except for the line costs to Telkrap. Is that an ADSL line or a Diginet line?
