UK Adsl Account

Apart from the legal/illegal our logic tells ud that is not quite possible, but I like many others will be searching, talk about despair, this has become the quest for the ADSL grail.

This is theoretically possible, however:
In order to authenticate, you connect to an authentication gateway, which looks at your username. The @provider.co.za part of your username tells the authentication gateway which "home gateway" to forward the authentication request on to. The home gateway's radius server then responds to the auth request, and then allows/denies the request.
For eg: I login with [email protected], the auth gateway sees the @axxess.co.za part, forwards the auth request onto axxess's VPN link, which authenticates me.

In order for a provider to be able to authenticate you, the auth gateway has to be aware of them somehow, meaning, Telkom has to configure them.

Bear with me for a moment but,

If you get a fractional T1 to Telkom, then via their frame relay network connect to a proxy connected via Intelsat VSAT to a UK tier one backbone provider, then you could just VPN to your specific Value Added ISP in the UK.

IE.

Cisco 18xx w/ T1 WIC < -> Telkom Frame Relay < -> Cisco 18xx w/ T1 WIC @ VSAT location < - > Intelsat Satbox (RSA) < [SPACE SEGMENT] > Teleport (UK) < - > Tier One provider < - > BT < - > UK ISP

Then VPN to get one continuous virtual pipe.
 
Hi Tim just a thought but if you use a remote access from there to UK and download what you need to uk PC then using VPN thats possibly a way round other option is an on line storage facility then download what you need from there rather than ftp

as sad as it sounds, many businesses will be much better off if they have their 'virtual' offices in the UK

I'm too lazy to think of a good example, but here's a possible scenario:

Lets say that you make computer games and you make 1 game a month and you need 120 GIgs of bandwtih to upload this game to 200 or so gaming sites in order for them to sell that game for you.

It would be much cheaper for you if you ask your buddy in the UK to connect one PC in his house for you, get an ADSL account there, and install some remote PC software like PC Remote or s/thing similar so you can work with that PC from here. Then once a month you just ship the new game to your buddy, he
copies the game on the HD, and you upload the game to the gaming websites...

If you do the whole thing from your office in South Africa you'll have to pay about R 10 000.00 or so a month (for the 120 Gigs)

If you do this from the UK you pay say R 400.00 for the connection + 200.00 ? for the shipping of the CD, which saves you more than R 9 000.00 every single month!

ok, I realize that this is a lame example but for businesses that have to transfer huge amounts of data this can work out pretty nicely ...
 
the isp's in the uk must be laughing their asses off..
your mate probably meant they have a vpn to the UK
