Of course they can announce an immediate ceasefire, they have pretty much already achieved what they wanted. Now they just have to fend off the rest of the under-powered rebels (and claim self-defense) in the process.

The dude is just scared that some nations are actually going to get involved militarily in Libya... which I imagine would make his military (to paraphrase Charlie Sheen) look like droopy-eyed armless children.
He knows if he gets dethroned now he is facing charges of human rights abuses.

I can see this being labeled as the continued war against Islam, and the quest by the nasty west for oil reserves.
Doubt it, the request started with the islamic states, the other nations waited before going ahead and adopting it.

If the rebels are smart, they should continue attacking the gadaffi regime as this will cause the gadaffi regime to strike back, and then France, Britain and the US can go in and destroy the gadaffi regime once and for all and put an end to this madness.
I am in no way supporting the death of the Libyan citizens, but I think that the only way to get gadaffi out is by force. He is not going to leave willingly.

I hope everybody is ready for the inter-tribe civil war that will begin once Gaddafi and his associates flee. And people don't believe me when I say the nation-state is a pathetic and dangerous anachronism? The Libyan rebels should've declared their regions independent and characterized their "rebellion" as secessionist, a la the American Revolutionary war of 1775.

Saddam was an american puppet that went rouge(or straight actually lol just rouge to them

The Muslim's were happy with these two so called puppets of the west (Saddam and Gadhafi) for so long.
What took them so long to realise that they are unwanted puppets of the west and don't have their interests at heart, is it that they are just extremely slow?
Gadhafi was their hero when he was ordering the likes of Lockerbie, and supporting other terrorist activities, so what changed?
I think you're missing the part where they ran brutal authoritarian dictatorships subsidized directly or indirectly by the West. Islamic terrorism is mostly blowback from this. Seriously though, if these countries had free and fair elections and chose Islamists do you think the West would recognize the result?

You are being harsh and judging them by their horrendous WW2 mistake. If you look at their conflicts throughout history, the French overwhelmingly won more battles than they lost. I wouldn’t mess with them.
