Hi There,

I know that Multichoice have recently changed the way you cancel your account (ie: only at the end of the month - the day before you are billed) but this is absolutely ridiculous:

I called in to setup my cancellation, and the first attempt went badly as, when I finally got through to an operator, I could hear the background noise of the callcenter but the women wasnt speaking. I held on for about 2 minutes, with her eventually saying hello. I gave her my name and told her that I would like to cancel my account. She asked me for my ID no, which I read out for her number by number... after that painful process she then asked me what she can help me with???? WTF? I told her (again) that I wanted contract cancelled, and then the line went dead... yeah, must be a bad connection right..

Anyways, second bite at the cherry yielded the unfortunate answer that Monochoice are unable to schedule a cancellation for the end of the month as I have Extraview (SERIOUSLY WTF) and I was advised that I should call in on the 27th this month to make cancellation.

Is this standard procedure or am i being F@rked around here? Because seriously if this is standard procedure then That company is even worse than I thought.

tl ; dr
Have to call in the day before I am billed to cancel and cannot ask them to schedule cancellation for end of month. This legit or not? Am I the only one who thinks this is absolutely backwards?

Granted I probably cancelled before the big rush and they changed the cancellation rules, but I simply requested the cancellation online on the DSTV site and a day later I was no longer their customer.

Bypass the helpdesk & do it online.

I was planning to downgrade to DSTV Access - seeing as my service is only a glorified Cartoon service for Disney Junior
And now I seem to have the same issue. Can upgrade at any time, but only downgrade the day before the 28'th.
So I asked the agent if I can cancel at the same time - her tone told me a number of people have asked that.

yeh but then you go into a red with the credit bereau which sucks

No you don't

Correct. There's no agreement. You don't sign any contract, it's paying for viewing in advance. You don't pay, you don't view.

I've kinda switched off and on over the last year or so since getting netflixed up, and they simply disconnect you when you don't pay.

Then a month or so later and the sport is good, I call and reconnect paying in advance.

Ok so this is paying a year's viewing in advance? Ok misunderstood there, as I thought it was on a monthly basis.

That's what they are trying to stop.

Lol, it is a monthly basis.

If I don't pay, they cut me off on the 3rd or 4th day of the month. A couple of months later I miss the sport, call them up, pay them for a month and get switched back on for a month. Rinse and repeat :)

That's interesting. So pay and watch, don't feel like paying, wait for as long as possible before they cut, then pay again and get switched on again? Lol

They cut you off pretty sharpish. You don't get much for free ;)

They used to allow it to run for a while accumulating credit but they have now realized some of those people in arrears don't bother going back and paying so they cut your off in double time now.
