Unable to delete some files, opera and firefox stopped working, can't uninstall them?

I can't remember the exact sequence of events but on my one PC I noticed that the desktop icons for opera and firefox are not displayed, not in the start menu either, it's just the normal white box with the blue top icon.

When trying to run either it says Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may noy have the appropriate permissions...

Same thing is said trying with admin account. When trying to uninstall them I get a blurb about permissions.

I noticed too that the install files for opera, firefox and spybot are giving the same problem, with regard to running or deleting them, these were fine before, they changed today AFAIK.

Earlier everything was okay, I updated opera to 9.62, installed firefox (latest version AFAIK), installed spybot, did some immunizing with spybot and scanning for problems and all was well, used firefox and opera a bit. I can't remember what was done in what order, but I'm sure I did spybot last.

It's not my PC so I don't know what was done with it, but last time I used it all was well.

None of the security s/w has made a peep, I did find comodo firewall was on training mode though I'm not sure if there's anything in that. Hijack this didn't seem to find anything much, I don't know exactly what's going on in it's logs but I couldn't see anything suspicious to me. Other aspects of the system seem okay.

I wonder if spybot killed something, but I used t on my other PC in the same way without problems. Anyway I'm not half done fiddling around with stuff for tonight I just jope someone can give me an idea of what's happening here, I'm worried about malware (though as I said it seems clean) etc, and the slightly paranoid part of me wonders if there's a link with this http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=143456, somehow I doubt it though.

I am a complete w***er.

I just figured out the whole lot of problems up there.

Earlier during installing spybot and so on I put CFP Defense+ into training mode (no pop ups will be shown that way), afterwards I put it back into CleanPC mode, which then makes CFP ask you if you want to review the list of newly introduced/modified files (i.e. everything that I had just installed/upgraded, including pagefile.sys I guess 'cos win must have upped it's size during the process.), which I did.

Accidently I moved the files to quarantine instead of safe files, then went into quarantine and removed them from the list but I must have forgotten to click apply, so all of that stuff was being blockedd by CFP the whole time. Just undid it and all seems back to normal.

I have half a mind to ask for this thread to be deleted just to save a bit of face.
