I have consistently experienced appalling service from MTN. I've had a contract for nearly 10 years and it's never improved. I used to be in a small town and thought it was just my local branch that was pathetic. Now I'm in Cape Town and found the same.

Yesterday I walked in to a store and asked the guy about 5 questions. Apart from never once smiling, he couldn't answer a single question - no info, offline, no brochures- no apologies. Do they not need to keep customers?

I went next door to cell c and the difference was incredible. They were bright and pleasant and helpful, and knew all the answers. I would have changed contract instantly, but they don't yet offer the iphone 4. I have absolutely no loyalty to MTN.

Same here, been with mtn for 13 years, switched to vodacom last month.
Service is pretty good at the vodacom store where I go now.
They actually wanted my business.
When they stuff up, I'll go to Cell C.

Being loyal to a company is admirable, but you're shooting yourself in the foot if you could be getting better service elsewhere.

Ah MTN, there is a trick to getting service, you either goto their service stores, where you get a ticket number and they will fix your problems right away... theres one in Northgate...

or you try your luck at 808, dont bother with mtn connect stores they will phone customer care for you  and then nothing changes or they give you some BS answer.. I dont suggest this option btw..

You were very lucky if you managed to get any service from a Cell C shop. Presumably you never went to the one in Canal Walk. See here.

cell c seem to be changing and really are getting better service wise, i'm with mtn for 9 years now and really never had a problem until they changed their packages to these new anytime contracts ...basically more money, less choice on phones and the free minutes are just not worth the price, so this year instead of upgrading i'm gonna cancel my contract and check out the new red bull (cell c) deals ... also i'm holding out on contracts until after the CPA is implemented (1st april)
