Almost everyone I know had unauthorised Debit orders going off their bank accounts in the month of December. I had 3 which I managed to reverse successfully. Where are these fraudsters getting our details from? And why have the banks not solve this long standing problem (other than the fact that they make money every time you do a reversal).

Basically every company that has information about you sells it,"anonymously" they say.
I still feel banks could do more to prevent it though. How difficult is it to to obtain account holder authorization on all new debit orders before they go off instead of doing after the fact like they currently are.

That's what debicheck is about. But banks are slow to adopt it. New deadline is Oct 2020.

When it was all paper or recording mandate based, very difficult. Now it's easier, and the system has been developed but not adequately implemented yet.

I got hit with my first ever unauthorised transaction yesterday. The reference is Feds Fxfedzbd Txn Fxfedzbd Tx.

Looks like a few people have been hit by this. And strangely, all my legitimate debit orders show up on the FNB app under “debit order disputes”, but this one doesn’t.

Like someone once said, if the right people (the banks in this case) continue to benefit from the existence of a particular problem, that problem will not get solved in a hurry.

The same thing happened to me. I called FNB and they said it is because of Forex. If you used your card to purchase something overseas the bank charges and uses a reference starting Feds Fxf....

Yes, this is what I figured out as well. My charge was for transfering from a Global account to an overseas bank, and the charge only activates once the overseas bank implements it some weeks later. Of course, no-one at FNB knows what that code means either.

I had the same odd charge on my account, and spoke to my private banker at FNB. She said it is a charge on an international payment I had made (which I did make), as I had selected the option that bank charges be paid by me ('OUR'). Hope this helps.

Yes, exactly what I figured out after speaking to numerous FNB employees of varying degrees of acuity.

I have a very interesting story to share related to Pick and Pay online shopping.

I added goods to my basket, it was big on promotion. At checkout, I added my credit card details. Then I got an invoice for the normal price. Pick and Pay "reserved" a MUCH bigger amount. I queried it.

Their reply : "Hi, our Online Technical Team has advised that the price you saw online was exclusive for online deliveries only and not for click n collect orders. "

Lesson learned, if you buy online via Pick and Pay online shopping, DONT COLLECT (you wont get the goods on promotion).

BE WARNED !!!!!!!!!

What does this have to do with Debit Orders?

Eh?

Got nothing to do with this thread.

Pulling it from a CC is like swiping your CC, not like a debit order.

Ok .... WEll, if i say ok for R400 via a debit order to a merchant (an actual debit order), and a debit order for shopping (online) from the same account .... what is that called ? shopping ?

Ok, lets say then unauth processing of an amount (will try and find a thread related to my scenario), sorry for rattling a few cages
