Uncapped ADSL price reductions

Why is Openweb not on the list? They also had recent price reductions?

You are right. R179. Very competitive.

The article would be useful if it also included the shaping methodologies used by the providers

Hi Guys,

There seems to be an issue with the Mweb accounts and pricing at the moment that no-one is noticing...

Mweb are currently advertising their 1mb all inclusive account for R339pm (and have been for a couple of weeks). But that price is based on the telkom line only costing current 384 price. (ie. based on prices after the upgrades). But as per the mbb article yesterday, the 384->1mb upgrades will only be starting in October, and take 6 weeks to complete.

So, I currently have a 1mb uncapped all inclusive account, which I have been been paying R488pm for. But now for August I was again charged R488, when the price has been advertised online as R339 for a couple of weeks now.

Now I realize that that price is based on the line upgrade that hasn't happened yet, but there is no such disclaimer on their website, So obviously their marketing guys have just jumped the gun on the price adjustment or something, BUT regardless I would expect to pay the advertised price.

There must be a lot of current Mweb 1mb Uncapped All Inclusive users in the same boat as me...

Thoughts?

The short version of the answer is that you are currently on a product priced at R488-00 which is a 1mb Uncapped account plus Telkom 1mb (Faster DSL) Line. The line is eligible to be upgraded to 2mb as per Telkom's speed increase rollout.

What you really need to do at this point is decide if you would prefer to be on a 2mb, or 1mb product going forward. If you choose to go to a 2mb Uncapped + 2mb Line bundle you will be paying R599-00. If you choose to downgrade to a 1mb Uncapped service + 1mb line you can go down to the R339-00 price.

A gave a rather lengthy explanation of this here, which hopefully will clear up any remaining confusion around this :)

Thank you @Will@MWEB

The above is not the problem. Telkom is giving the upgrade according to My BB for about R10 extra. Not R111 more! Even Axxess is R73 cheaper than Mweb.

I am on the Cybersmart 1MB line and circuit, business package which is uncapped, unshaped, restored and has a low contention ratio all for R499 ALL INCLUSIVE. Now thats a great deal
