Uncapped ADSL pricing comparison

Corrected: I am paying R159 for 384kbps uncapped with my ISP that is called Myisp and i get good, responsive service to boot. If I have problems with my home adsl the problem is usually where my fix line is.

Comparing "uncapped" is so pointless.

You may as well have a table where you compare the cost of cars, but give no details on the cars. I'm sure a golf 1 would be cheaper than a golf 5.

A table like the one in the article really hurts the uninformed. This website was meant to be a site where people are helped, not tricked.

ouch, you cant put mweb in the same tables as the IS based stuff, Mweb is in a different playing field than the rest, a lot better.

IS based product FUPFUP's are useless "its uncapped, even though your only getting 1KB/s, but its still uncapped, so stop complaining"

Obviously you havnt used Openweb Gold.

WA also has their own network. As does Afrihost. So it's only Telkom and Nashua that uses the IS network (as far as I know).

2/4 (50% right)

WA has their own network, as does Telkom (SAIX). Afrihost and Nashua mobile use the IS network...

LOL! Telkom using the IS network? You know Telkom has the largest network with the highest capacity by miles, right?

Was thinking the same thing. It's not price that's the issue anymore. It's quality.

Edited:

Which is why I'm on Openweb GOLD :D

well I have been an Mweb user since the beginning of the year, and never had an issues, no disrespect to WA guys, but if even if you not a heavy user and you decide one day just to sit an watch youtube videos of your off day you will be throttled and you will have to wait till the evening?? or even better yet watch the HD videos, which is approx 100mb or more, so you can only stream about 8 videos approx till you throttled. So +1 for Mweb

as far as I know doesn't mean anything anymore....

Its sort of like the "No offense but..." thing.

Someone on a 384 line could, potentially, download 1,8 or so Gigs per hour
Uhm no. 384k results in 0.14 gigs per hour.

This comes only a day after Nashua Mobile launched unshaped, uncapped ADSL products with prices ranging between R219 (384kbps) and R549 (4Mbps).
Unshaped & Uncapped at that price? Where is the catch?

I guess it would come down to how much bandwidth you could consume at specific speeds... Someone on a 384 line could, potentially, download 1,8 or so Gigs per hour and someone on a 4 Meg line could get closer to 14 and a half Gigs.
Also, I agree with Roadrunner... Where is OpenWeb?

Your calculations are way off:

40KBps * 1 hour = 140.62500 megabytes (384kbps)

100KBps * 1 hour = 351.5625 megabytes (1Mbit)

420KBps * 1 hour = 1.44195557 gigabytes (4Mbit)

I definitely agree with a AUP/FUP comparison.

If one actually uses an uncapped service like its supposed to be used, its pointless going with any other ISP besides MWEB.

By a factor of ten... That's what I get for working things out in my head... There's an app for that.

These comparisons are pointless. It is like comparing 2 bottle of orange squash where the one is like a rand cheaper. The problem with this is that the cheaper one only make 25 glasses of cooldrink compared to the one that is a rand more expensive but gives you 50 glasses. The manufacturar of the cheaper brand will then try to convince buyers that you can in fact get 50 glasses from its product if you dilute it a lot. In fact they will go as far as telling you it will last as long as the other product with the same quality if you only have a glass every second day.

Hahahaha. Now that's original.

whats with you obsessions with Mwarp. Webafrica just took over their crown.

How about an article comparing the AUP/FUP for all ISPs? That should help people in choosing an uncapped account more than price alone.

+1 please, and add any features like the IS resold accounts that seem to allow 2 concurrent connections (Afrihost have just started using this).

Web Africa may be cheap but there 6 hour window thing doesn't appeal to me.
What is the 6hr window thing about?

Afrihost have started using IS accounts for uncapped, I had to change a friend's ADSL router after she received an email from Afrihost about the change.

I think you need to define "own network" - for ADSL it has to go via the Telkom IPC system, then it depends if the ISP has a local POP IPC connection or if they route over someone else's.

Maybe someone can enlighten me about the Afrihost IS system for example - are they just using IS for the national and IPC portion and then IS hand the connection back to them for international transit or is the whole service being resold?

I have the same deal with MyIsp R159 for 384kbps uncapped. Get upto 52kB/s downloading +-55GB per month. No shapping on torrent files, but they do apply trotteling if you are in th top 80% of useage.

can anyone say if they are familiar with mwebs FUP?
http://www.mweb.co.za/legalpolicies/GeneralPage/AcceptableUsePolicy.aspx

I cant seem to find a statement other than - • You may not restrict, inhibit or interfere with the ability of any person to access, use or enjoy the Internet or the any services, or create an unusually large burden on our network, including, without limitation, continuously uploading or downloading streaming video or audio; continuous FTP uploading or downloading, or otherwise generating levels of traffic sufficient to impede others' ability to send or retrieve information, or to use the services in an abusive manner in connection with any unlimited packages, options or promotions.

now that doesnt really say that if i was to download 10GB in one day, each day for 7 days a week for 30 days a month, will they see that as being unfair or is that still acceptable? that is just an example.

Will someone comment if they have had an experience with mweb throttling their account due to over usage on an uncapped account. and how do they handle P2P? do they really throttle it or is it reasonable?
