Uncapped ADSL

Matt my question is still basically not answered ......why can we not get uncapped accounts with 2 seperate connects at once but you guys limiting the bandwidth to a max of say 100 gig per mth....irrespective whether 2 or 3 connect concurrently

Cause then it wouldn't be uncapped, it would be a 100GB account... which I can do for you at R4750 a month with 4 concurrent connections, at any speed you like.

Trick question - shaped or unshaped? :D

It may be feasible, but then we would be inundated with complaints that we advertise 'uncapped' but the product is not true uncapped.

LOL, shaped of course :D It's a standard SAIX account, hehe can do unshaped for R11 000 a month I think :P

Make that R10000 + VAT :P Lets see how many ppl jump for that ;)
I'm sorry - I'll have to make a citizens arrest as you used the words "shaped" and "unshaped" :p

Some might just do that but definitely not all. As far as I can see the major stumbling block will be the cost of local access now that its not covered in the cap. How much extra are the isp's going to be charging for that.

No, all would close their doors. The only main ISP's that provide their own actual bandwidth that ADSL runs over are IS and SAIX as they connect directly into the ADSL network. There are a few others like Verizon, but those are the main ones. All other ISPs simply resell IS and SAIX on a per GB or per account pricing basis. And I'm pretty sure that IS and SAIX can't afford to offer unlimited bandwidth for that price, not with Telkom controlling the main supply and setting their own prices.

It's really a simple business issue. It's like Pick n Pay being forced to sell unlimited food for x amount. It just doesn't work. And ISPs can't 'invent' bandwidth, same as Pick n Pay can't 'invent' food.

You realise SAIX is Telkom right?

Note at all. SAIX are a Tier-1 ISP that supply bandwidth. Telkom are a PSTN that supply communications lines.

Telkom INTERNET are an ISP that resell SAIX bandwidth like all other SAIX resellers.

They are all meant to be completely independent entities.

Yes, the jip is that they are all 'owned' by the same people at the end of the day. Telkom Internet are 'supposed' to buy bandwidth from SAIX at the same rate that the other SAIX resellers do, but I don't believe that for a second. And SAIX are 'supposed' to buy communications services from Telkom at the same price and service that other Tier-1's do, but I don't believe that either.

The Telkom - SAIX - Telkom Internet triangle is precisely how Telkom abuse their monopoly, and it's essentially government's way of realising a scenario in which the sole supplier of services is able to compete with the people that are forced to buy from them. Hence the whole anti-competitive debacle with Telkom. Believe me, we've lost many Diginet clients because SAIX could suddenly offer them a 2 week installation time on their Diginet line whereas we had been waiting for Telkom to install for months.

With those great new ICASA regulations you mentioned, Telkom Internet will probably be the only ISP that will NOT close it's doors if they are enforced because they DON'T pay the same for bandwidth from SAIX as the other SAIX resellers, and SAIX does not pay the same for communications services from Telkom that the other Tier-1's do. So you will end up with a single ISP, Telkom Internet. Enjoy that one. And that is why the ICASA regulations actually favour Telkom at the end of the day.

That is rather disturbing

Its been a while, 2 years more or less since my days in IT :P, but wasnt ICASA meant to be helping things ? What changed ?

hello

i am using ADSL/Router [billion] for conneting to internet

my question is

Is there any way through which i can get more downlaod bandwidth

It's not ucapped it's a 30GB ten day rolling account story... i.e. you're only alowed to do a maximum of 10GB in 10 days, and 30GB in a month.

I can give you a true 30GB per month account at R1500.00. with 4 concurrent connections. (no contract) on SAIX's more reliable network rather than IS's.

Can you give me 20Gig Saix for R800?
