Uncapped broadband: Google versus Telkom

Thank you, I will cry myself to sleep tonight!

.. This is the first time that I've seen uncle RPM post an article that I am not going to read.

There is really no point in comparing our internet over here to that of a first world fibre network.

still, just shows that we are paying 4 times as much for service with 1/1000th of the speed (1Gbps upload vs 1Mbps upload)
Lets not forget that they get a lineup of 160 Channels, a Nexus 7 tablet, a TV Box, Storage Box & Network Box added as a bonus.

what makes our internet so expensive?
The rest of the world has fast & cheap internet, why must it be different for South Africa?

I understand RSA is not on par with the rest of the world, but 1/1000th of the speed @ 4 times the cost?

We are seriously doing something wrong.

What a pointless article, I dunno why u even bothered writing it.If it was a fair comparison betweeen US and SA internet pricing maybe it would be worth the pixel, but as is.....?

Totally retarded and pointless article, I agree, but if you want to feel better about our Internet, read/listen to some reviews of Google Fiber. It currently battles to stream 720p streams a lot of the time, and it looks like Google knows it ain't getting better any time soon, because they're supplying the 1TB local storage for media.

I thought the entire point of fat pipes controlled by the content pusher was to get silky smooth VOD and never worry about local stuff - but somehow Google's manage to make their 1Gbit service of lower quality than the average 10mbit American ADSL line.

It's not teething problems either, as they've had a bunch of beta customers around the city using it for 3+ months, and there are reports from them that when they surf the internet video glitches.

Will be interesting to watch and see how this plays out. Maybe Google's bitten off more they can chew here.

It's like comparing a third world dumpsite with a 1st world vibrant megacity. Not a good way to start the day

What the hell is the point of this article. We know we have crap internet. Now I just feel worse :|

1st world to anc world comparison without the mention of it :)

I think the article is good, as it shows exactly how far behind we are. Its good to have a comparison to see what is the type of broadband is out there.
