Hi guys,

I am looking for an uncapped account for one of my clients, and am in need of some feedback regarding the following 2 options:

Openweb: http://special.openweb.co.za/ This being the top option (Uncapped Express - 4Mbps After Hours)

OR

Axxess: http://www.axxess.co.za/uncapped.php This being the Uncapped Express+ 512kbps.

Now, the openweb one is slightly cheaper. I know that many people are very happy with their axxess accounts, but have not heard much about the openweb ones. Are they as good. Please not that the account is going to be used for a lot of downloading, so realistically, during the day, even on the Axxess account the client is looking at 256kbps speeds as most of the time, threshhold is going to be exceeded.

Thanks for the comments.

IMO axxess is cheaper because they offer a 384kbps option at R899

both are throttled after the limit is reached but both will operate at 4mbps (don't know about the opebweb one but assume they are the same) after hours so in the end u get about the same downloaded from both accounts with a R200 per month difference.

Axxess = 24 hour support, very nice. More professional company to deal with imo.

On the other hands I have had an Openweb account for the past 2 months and have had good service, to be honest though it may just be me. For example I just added another account to my listing today and had a problem with the card payment (As in it said it went through but looked like it didnt). I had an answer within 3 hours.

On the negative side I agree with the no 24 hour support line, and there was one time where i really needed something like that.

If anyone bashes Openweb, I cant disagree, but as I mentioned I have had good sevice and I have more importantly had good download speeds. During the day it is throttled to 256k though, but generally the open hous tend to be more flexible in a psitive way (maybe that is IS?)

I think the difference between having 192k or 256k during the day is minimal compared to the difference in pricing. The 384k fibre account from Axxess @ R999 is the best value for money. I would avoid satellite. The service levels, control panel and billing ease of Axxess is superior too.

But if you must have 256k in the day then the Openweb Special is better value for money than the Axxess 512k Uncapped.

Once you are using the account, I don't think there is any difference between ISPs, since they both run on the IS Fibre backbone, and the accounts are controlled by IS.

mkay guys, thanks for the answers... The reason why I am leaning more towards the Openweb account is as follows: this is going to be used in an office enviroment with about 5 clients. The major downloading is going to be at night. If it was for myself, then definetly would go for the Axxess 384kb account, as daytime speeds are less of an issue, but in the current situation, need something at least half decent, so what I am mainly worried about is throttled speeds and in this case 256k > 192k so think I will go with Openweb, and if there are any problems will then switch...

why would you avoid satellite?

I've had the express + and now Im trying the express (sat) and I cant tell the difference at all... Ok thats a lie. Sometimes I think its even faster!!

The latency is definitely BETTER, but I dont know how the hell that is possible, could be something about Seacom I dont know... there is a whole thread about that! But I cant find it now...

I've only recently been on Axxess uncapped (Fibre). The last time I had an IS uncapped product was back in 2007, which ran over satellite. It was a lot less responsive and a lot less stable than now. So maybe I am mistakenly attributing that performance difference to fibre vs satellite. Interesting...

IMO the axxess account makes a bit more sense for non business users, most of your usage occurs after hours anyway so that is when you need the speed, busy using the axxess account in our household and it works like a charm

warning
bussinesses are more likely to be persued for illegally downloading content than residential customers.

mmm, true, but in this case, nothing illegal, just TV RIPs of some russian shows, which are impossible to get here... so doubt there is going to be any persual...
