Any pointers on which ISP's he should try/avoid

When it comes to uncapped you dont really have many options and in a manner of speaking it does not matter which ISP you choose because you either go with Neotel or you go with Internet Solutions. (All ISP's resell the uncapped packages from Internet Solutions)

Probably the best bet is to go with ISP's like Webafrica or Axxess as their support are rated very highly.

As your friend is out of Neotel coverage, they are not a option but would have been the best choice in terms of what you're getting for the money.

Only other option is the uncapped packages from IS.

The express one's are the cheapest but are terrible because your line speed is halved when you use more than the 10 day rolling period allows.

The best cheapest uncapped solution is the business packages but starting at around R2000 a month total including telkom line rental, it's very expensive and you must use a router supplied.

Have to mention that this "halving" only happens between 8am and 8pm on weekdays, on weekends and between 8pm and 8am on weekdays its full speed.

And between you and me, there are a lot of days where there are no throttling
