When we think of uncapped, we think of something similar to

uncap definition un·cap (-kap′)

transitive verb uncapped -·capped′, uncapping -·cap′·ping

1.to remove the cap from the head of (a person)
2.to remove the cap, or cover, from (a bottle, etc.)

So why is it that when it comes to ADSL then there are all these fair usage policies etc? So basically when I apply for uncapped it is infact "uncapped" but if you use more than x, then we will take action?

I think that this is false advertising, but not sure if anyone else will agree?

Everyone agrees, but its not really about the amount that you use its the fact that a 4meg line performs like a 384 when you're shaped.
But then .. without those FUP's we'd still be paying R100/gig so we just grin and bear it with a vaseline smile.

Use the search function to find any one of the 200 odd threads where it was discussed.

it's uncapped as in you can take the cap off... but don't break the neck of the bottle off to get more contents out quicker.

hence the practice of placing it within quotes. unquoted would refer to the line preforming at it's full potential 24/7 regardless of how much it has already done, ~R2000 per month for 4 megabit.
yes pity the meaning of the word got twisted, but ppl are expected to least try think for themselves as with just about everything in life.

remember a certain food chain's unlimited chips and coke offer? imagine if you pitched up with an empty bottle and paper bag. how long do you think it would be before they refuse to serve you? :)

How can we break the bottle??? I'm paying for 4MB and only getting 4MB nothing more can't see how I can modify it any other way to go faster..

Anyways I'm stuck on capped account for the reason that I hate being shapped and like my speed constant..

It's because the 4meg uncapped accounts are too cheap. 4meg has 8 times the download of 512 yet you don't pay 8times the cost. So FUP are necessary unless you want to pay a lot more.

Blame MWEB for making the 4meg so cheap.

If you want real uncapped get an OpenWeb GOLD uncapped account.

Fup's are pretty standard these days, even in Europe and the US.... all in all mwebs policies are fair and the shaping has been reasonable lately..... 140+ gigs done this month as of this morning, seldom go below 320 gigs per month.... this level of usage would have been impossible before the uncapped revolution.
