I download in the sense that I play online on PS3 , that is all I do.

Then do not reply, simple dude. I am not whining, I am ranting. I do not need your sympathy so quit assuming. IKR, changing ISP might help. IDK this stuff cos I am new.

If you dont know this stuff then maybe do some research before claiming that uncapped users have destroyed your internet. I am a 4meg uncapped user and i dont downloading 100's or even 100 gigs day. In fact it isnt even possible for any 4meg users to download even 50 gigs a day. and just because i could maybe get around 40 gigs in one day, that doesnt mean i do.. Ive had uncapped a few months now and have never downloaded more than 100 gigs in one month. The extreme downloaders are a minority, and they will decrease as they cant think of anything left to download. Maybe just chill out.. unconstructive ranting is lame.
You've been in this country 3 months, you probably enjoyed uncapped internet in NY for ages and now when uncapped has become reasonable (not affordable but reasonable in price - as in R900 pm) you moan about how local users are messing up your experience. There is something INDECENT about your rant. Let me put it in perspective for you, Telkom was built with our tax money then sold off now it double dips and charges us a lot - many of us have been paying R1000 for 10GB of data or similar prices for yonks now and you come here and moan about how, now that the uncapped costs close to a grand - imagine paying 15% of the average salary on internet in NY, you say other users are messing it up and I guess the ISPs should go to the old ways and make users pay R70 per GB because that will make you on your obscure offering (Uncapped Midnight Express++ whatever) feel special again and experience great speeds. Well the cat's out the bag and ordinary users are experiencing uncapped. There's a lot to download and it's all legal - tutorial sites like Lynda.com, TV sites streaming sites (ad sponsored or sub based), free TV and radio, streaming sites like CrunchyRoll, etc - lots of stuff available for download and make use of. I also want to point out that even RS content, if made with public funds (state TV, grants from governments, etc) is strictly speaking public domain.
If your ISP sucks change it. My services - both MWEB and iBurst are fast - no slow downs at all.

But then again the OP should probably specify that it is the 4Mb "bandwidth abusers" that suck. In fact all 4Mb users. My little 384k line is doing just fine. And I am doing 10 times less damage than one of the 4Mb "bastards"

you guys should just get 4meg lines.. 10 x the speed, not even 3 times the price. fair enough, times are tough and not everyone can afford it but the reasoning is there. ofcourse, this is just referring to line rental. i want 8meg :/

Yeah Schick most of us tend to hop ISPs every few months, if a service can't deliver we leave. Thanks to the no contract approach this works like a charm now. This is also why many people have accounts with multiple ISPs. If one dies, try the other. This is a little harder nowadays though. With Mweb literally rocking the industry to its foundations in the last while (to which we will be eternally grateful regardless of any difficulties), and seacom flooding the market with additional bandwidth while at the same time forcing Sat 3 to reduce their prices or get pushed out of the market altogether (for which we are also naturally eternally grateful), this also means then that alot of sleepy ISPs that didn't see the writing on the wall are is very serious danger of extinction. Therefore we end up with less viable alternatives to switch to. In business terms this is really the shake out phase, its bound to be a bit bumpy, but by the end of it things should look alot better, particularly when you consider that this will be an extended shakeout, with a further 3 undersea cable providers, each with a higher capacity offer than the last, coming in over the next year. For South Africans this is bandwidth heaven, now all we need is for the local networks to be upgraded and the line rental prices to drop so we can really enjoy it.

WTF dude you pay for your 384 damage and we 4Mb users pay for our 4096 damage so STFU ... I watch you tube with ease .... I dl with ease , http stays fast for me don't know why you are complaining !!!! If you don't like ADSL go to 3G ...

I have had enough of South African internet. The past few weeks have been an absolute abortion, and even now everything is still slow and high latencies. WHY CAN'T SOMEONE FIX WHATEVER NEEDS TO BE FIXED!!?? Surely this is killing the productivity of small business etc.? It has such massive knock-on effects too.
In all honesty Cybersmart isn't a very good ISP. If you have a problem they don't really know what's going on 99% of the time - or refuse to help you until you e-mail them.
Since the Seacom fiasco a few days ago I've been having bad speeds on my MWEB 4Mb account. Called Telkom and asked them to change my port; now it's perfect. Maybe you should call them and ask the same thing?
