Hey guys

I moved into a new place and they have uncapped telkom internet 4mb but its is terrible intermittent speed drops from 200kb to 20kb strange thing is internet browses fine and voip based calls are fine.

i tried disabling the routers wan setups and did a ppp straight from my pc with a free 2g fnb account and same thing all be it marginally better.

Steam downloads from the local cape town server and it too is wrecked.

I'm assuming its related to telkom s equipment somewhere.

Can axxess take over a line from telkom if its still under contract, i would much rather have them argue with telkom than me do it every second day.

Also can anyone tell me what the attenuation and db should be for a 4mb line or any other things that would indicate a faulty line.

No matter who you "pay" for your line, you'll need to talk to telkom directly about faults. The best advice is NEVER move your line away from telkom to avoid added hassle. If you feel you have a line issue the solution isn't migrating, it's trying to talk to someone higher up.

Telkom uncapped has been borked of late. They changed the FUP with no notice or anything.
No downloads during week days. They also played with gaming so it sucks untill 11pm when nobody is online.

In the KZN region, yes. You missed the part where he tried with another ISP account as well, hence this points to a Telkom line fault rather than an ISP issue.

I didn't miss it. He needs to know when testing that there are fresh issues. If I had know TI had implemented this new policy I would have saved much time and money. These problems are not confined to KZN, which is a red herring.

New POLICY? Reading all the articles on MyBB as well as Telkom's responses and also ranger's replies, they implemented an existing policy that has always been there for all to see on their website.

You're not telling the full story. Telkom's FUP was last updated in April and only now are we seeing a dramatic change in the service. It's hardly fair to sell people a product and then change it 4 months later to something else.

You agreed to the policy, right? Why complain now that they are enforcing the policy? Surely you should have expected the FUP will be enforced sooner or later.

Can you show me in the FUP where I can't do online gaming please.

Hi b1nary,

Unfortunately we unable to migrate a line over to us if there is data active on the line from another ISP :(

No downloads during week days.

Not True, and I've definitely been moaning about TI, but as of yesterday, things are better. Today is Monday, which is a weekday, and this is my current download as of 9.59am on a 4MB Uncapped account.

I'm pleased things have improved. You don't specify what sort of download you were testing.

Certainly torrents are all but turned off, and it happened just prior to the public notices. Before that they were just fine.

HTTP downloads, which were completely farked for the longest time. Pulling down a 2.7GB dl now and it's also flying at full speed. I've never used torrents, so I can't comment on that side of things.
