uncapped thievery ?

why is it not uncapped, you can download as much as you want
there is no hardcap or softcap therefore there is no cap whats so hard to understand.

definition of a cap: "A bandwidth cap, also known more precisely as a download cap or bit cap, limits the transfer of a specified amount of data over a period of time"

if that is so then uncapped is everything it is not.

those expresse 'uncapped' accounts is cleary being limited in transfer speed as well as the data tranfer being monitored.

its a managed account and not a true uncapped.

in true uncapped you are not limited or monitored in any way.

(taking in account the 512k 'uncapped' expressed account)
the name promised uncapped but in essence it is limited to 10G for first 10days henceforward you speed is decreased to 50% or if you at any time over go 30G for the month same story thus you total data tranfer is CAPPED and limited.

worst case scenario:
first 2 days
dayes 1 - 2 = 10G (5g per day normal)

28 days remaning (2.5 G aday)

days 3-30 = 70G

now IS has effectively limited your total download of data to 80G for each month (if all conditions are met for through put)
...

normally i get to 30G around the 20th - that leaves me with 10 days remaning (counting out the 31st)

10 half speed will result in 25G.

in effect i am getting a 45G account for R1359 p/m - allready castrated to death with its work / off peak limits in place.
...

are you going to pay R1359 p/m for a 512k/256k service when IS is allready at the point where you must have a saix account just to use the internet?

strike that 20Kbs and surely you will sing different tune - this is not 384k

the product should read: managed adsl account 512k/256k adsl halfs at threshold...

is that so hard to understand ? ;)

uncapped has nothing to do with the speed.
i dont agree with your definition of cap i edited to the way i think it should be
definition of a cap: "A bandwidth cap, also known more precisely as a download cap or bit cap, limits the total amount of data that can be transfered with the adsl account"

if you say that this express uncapped adsl is *capped* then you can also say that the 4 mb fiber SAIX uncapped account that goes for R5000 is also capped cause you can only get a max of 1307.8125 gigs if you get your max speed through the whole month.

If I have the TrueUncapped account (4mbps SAIX Fiber), they wont "do" anything if I use too much or go crazy 25/8/367. If I have one of these fake uncapped acounts, and I do what I would do on a TrueUncapped account, they "do" something - something bad. For something to be uncapped and unshaped, they need to do Nothing to me, nevermind what I do with my line. I am being punished for using it, not exactly my definition of Uncapped.

Ludjer is technically correct. However the spirit of the accounts when they were first advertised is not what is in practice today (although no doubt the terms and conditions gave the power to change to this). The problem with Ludger's arguement is that Telkom could say that my 4Mbps line will drop to 1kbps after hitting 3GB usage and brand that as uncapped. Again technically its correct, but really against the spirit of what anyone would take as uncapped.

dude the defenition of uncapped is that they put no limits on the amount of data that you can download/upload again, they are legit uncapped but i now its not nice

milomak thx that is exactly what im saying. they cant go complain for false information or false advertising.
if you dont like it dont buy it

Technically correct is when Vodacom would suddenly claim that their 3G/HSDPA products are uncapped. It is uncapped. They have no controll over your $$$, so you cannot blame them if you are "capped" at xGB because you can only afford Rx. ;) ;)

But as you say, the "TrueUncapped" accounts was quickly converted to fake uncapped accounts some time ago.

eish, the good old days

arg, the point is they are soft limiting you on the 'uncapped' which effects your total data usage - why the account naming shouldn't read just 512k for a 512k 'uncapped', but clearly 512k/256k uncapped

one question though - why can't there be bussiness uncapped without the static ip setup.

if one take the bussiness setup you have to say goodbey to nice saix/verizon unshaped you have because of the router limitation or you can get another telephone line + adsl package...

One thing most of the R5000 a month 4MB uncapped Fibre accounts are also "capped" at 100GB after 100GB you get throttled to speeds of 128 or 64 kbps :o

http://www.gam.co.za/connectivity/adsl_uncapped.php
http://www.rsaweb.co.za/adsl/internet-adsl/business-adsl/
http://www.ods.co.za/Services/uncapped_100.asp

EDIT: GamCo & RSAWeb say thier 4MB uncapped is via satelite, ODS has it via SAIX. Had to correct my above statement that all these were fibre as it turns out I was mistaken ;)

well netralink is the one company that used to sell 4 mb uncapped and did not come with that threshold because there is 400-500 gigs a month done on one account, to bad they closed, cant wait for somthing to happen or move out of the sh!ty country

And whatever the price, it was good for a 10 concurrent connections uncapped account!

Well i have one of the ODS Business uncapped 512k and i have had no problems sofar. Running at a constant 50-56k and i can access all the sites i want to and do p2p. No problems

Hi guys

sorry to ressurect this thread, but it did come up in a google search I did for wireless uncapped ISP's in SA.

I've created a login just to get this thread going again... 1 year later.

Right. So, I feel rather stupid firstly, as I was one of those idiots who thought that a marvelous "uncapped" package for x amount was the best thing since sliced bread. A friend of mine down the road had been with this ISP for several months with zero problems. Downloading constantly etc.

After hefting out R4800 (yes, 4, 8, zero, zero) for ONLY the setup equipment, plus a monthly fee, the first month went smoothly. I was finally able to use my rapidshare account like I had always dreamed of.

Then all of a sudden my internet dies. Numerous calls to the ISP to get it sorted go unanswered. Long story short, they decided they were going to cut my connection because I downloaded too much. Many apologies later I get my internet back (a week later). 4 days later, it goes down again. This time without me downloading severely.

Another long story short, I've been told to ef-off & find another ISP. wtf?

Everything I've read in this thread makes sense. Fake uncapped internet. Bla. i'm seriously pissed off.

I'm curious to know who (a year later) is still fighting the fine fight of the bandwidth here with me?

With a R4800 setup fee I'm guessing it was a WISP?

wow old cow dig up....

lol, I know, sorry. But reading through all these 'old' posts, its as bloody true today as it was a year ago! What the hell is going on, if we still sitting with the same problems (or I am) that we have had for over a year!

I would love to be enlightened as to what you guys are using now as your viable options, as my ISP (as mentioned) has kindly (not really) told me to find another one as they won't be keeping me as a client anymore.
