Hi all. We are in the process of doing a major renovation to our property in Cape Town. As a foreigner, having a central heating facility is a given in all houses - but not so much here in Cape Town (and I find the winters very chilly). We have been looking at options - and yes., the electric version of underfloor heating, while not too expensive to install - is just crazy expensive to run (with the cost of electricity). So, there an alternative - hydronic heating, with two sources of heating (heat pump or pellet burner).
Has anyone had experience with this setup
Pellet burner, as far as costs go - we can simulate the demand for the pellets in a cold winter - and put a price to that
But for the heat pump option, we're struggling to understand how much the running cost of a heat pump is. We're told it's "very efficient" but nobody can put an actual price to it.
We would also like to include solar into the mix to take the burden from the grid and run it through solar as much as possible -but it's challenging to get all these questions answered.
If anyone has done this before, or is willing to share some knowledge - would be really helpful
thanks
