Unfair dismissal?

May I ask what industry your company is in? May give a better idea of what "management" in this case entails. For some fields, managers NEED to be old, but in others it could easily be quite the opposite.

Not my industry. But Digital Media and Marketing - SEO, Adwords, Social Media, Analytics etc.

So not an industry that requires age, just skills and experience, both of which are present. I mean this person got head hunted with a R10k increase in salary, so they are wanted and have the skills. That's what's so frustrating with this ***, they're doing so well and so happy, and then got totally blindsided.

I feel for your friend OP. I was appointed as a 26 year old in charge of a group of 35 to 40 year olds in a heavily unionised environment. Was a challenge and they put up massive resistance at first, but eventually they came round and we worked together great.

In what fields do they need to be old?

Meeting with a Labour Lawyer tomorrow morning at 10 who will advise whether we have a case or not and if so, will take the appropriate steps.

As an interesting aside, the employer wants to meet for coffee tomorrow.

I've advised to meet if they feel like it, but do not sign anything nor make any agreements.

I'm not a vindictive person, but I feel like I want to nail this company to the wall. Spineless managers, who needs 'em?
