Hi

I need some help. I got a UniFi AC LR AP and want to set it up so I can access my wifi around the house.

I also have a Netgear 24 port unmanaged switch connected to my TP-Link W8968.

Will this work and if so how do I set it up?

Thanks

Yes, it will work.
I'd disable the wifi on the Tenda, and use the Ubiquiti exclusively. Beautiful APs

Welcome to the *special* joy that is the UniFi controller...

It does seem overkill on first site that you need an app to run an AP. But technically you only need it to config the AP. It runs on it's own happily. I installed it as a service on a windows box. Handy especially in an office environment.

Wouldn't think so, but best to configure via a cabled connection just to rule out any funnies.

Well as that horrible thing *is* meant for business/big(ger) network deployments, it's fine for that context. And yes, once you've got it going these things are largely bullet-proof. Which doesn't much mitigate that it's bloody awful. Specially when I can get plenty good enough radios that have an INFINITELY better (designed, and to use) controller!

Cabled to the AP or the laptop to the switch?

Cable it to the AP/Router (with DHCP enabled, gives ip addresses automatically), the UniFi don't have a static ip address by default, once you've installed and opened the UniFi Controller software, and it's all cabled up, it'll show up in the Controller software "wizard", you can then just follow on screen instructions to get it provisioned and you'll be ready to go.

With ColinR on the disabling of the TP-link :)

EDIT: Laptop must obviously be connected to same AP/Router
