Help...

I'm trying to remove all the shit that Samsung & Vodacom pre-installed on my S4 plus some of the google stuff I don't need.

There is a problem though...the stuff isn't going away if I click on Uninstall in the Play store. It just marks the app as needing an update.

Plus in the case of some google stuff (e.g. Hangouts) the app triggers the initial notification (enable SMS or something). Tap on the notification and I get the app I supposedly just uninstalled. Some of them are giving me notifications that they were updated.

I figured its just a glitch and needs a phone restart. Do so and then it automatically starts re-installing all 30ish apps I just "uninstalled". WTF

What type of witchcraft do I need to make the uninstall button uninstall stuff? (Short of throwing it against the wall...tempted).

If you are on a stock ROM then the best you can do is to disable some of the apps. If you want to uninstall the apps permanently, then your best bet would be to root your S4. Xda-developers should have all the information you need to do this. But keep in mind that some of the google apps are backed into android google plus, hangouts will probably in the future as well.

Disabling them seems to have helped for some of it. Thanks.

Still ridiculous that they make people jump through so many hoops though to get "rid" of that rubbish.

To completely uninstall OEM apps you would need to root and use something like titanium backup.

I would suggest backing up the app first and then uninstalling.

This allows you to restore the app in case you broke something in the process.

Just look for CF-autoroot. That is the easiest way to go about rooting an S4 especially if you are only beginning. Keep in mind though that rooting voids your warranty, which they also state on XDA.

Used to use my S4 and had it rooted. Sent in for repairs through NashuaMobile and they still fixed it. Now just running stock, and disabled the apps I don't want mainly because I switched my daily phone to a Lumia.
