Hi All,

Has anyone ever went to Unitas as a private patient and used their facilities on a pre-admission basis and made payment arrangements with Unitas to pay-off the account?

Would like to know if it can be done.

Before I had a medical aid I tried that, it was a no go. I had to transfer R15k to them immediately before they would help. The eventual bill came to R5k and they refunded the rest.

Pretoria Academic hospital is supposedly quite good. Use some tax monies :)

Tricky, but possible to be a private patient. In general they will not admit you to any type of treatment until the full payment has been settled. They will pay back monies if needed, but you will have to pay in a lot before hand.

Don't think you can pay it off over a few months: they are not a credit institution (or something in that line)

Get a medical aid dude... safe yourself lots and lots of money, as well as ending up in a hospital you do not want to be.

Unitas will ask a deposit from you.

I am busy with the medical aid, but as this will be considered as a pre-exising condition it will not be covered.

depends what medical aid your going on, and what the condition is. Usually when there is a condition which is Pre-exciting you have to wait 3months before going.
