I most probably posted this in the correct section, right?

Anyways, to be honest I am not a very book smart person and that is why I literally have to study my ass off to get decent grades. My strengths in my classes though are English Biology and Consumer Studies.

I have applied and been accepted to Monash South Africa. I love this university because it's close to home and their features interest me a lot! also all of my best friends are attending and we are all so excited for our next step. The course I am dying to do is a double major in Journalism/Communications ever since I can remember Journalism has been my passion!

Monash has this programme that if you don't make the required amount of points to get into your degree they put you into a one year bridging course. My course requires 32 points and this whole year i have recieved 31  I have found these exams very nice and have studied very hard for them but what if I end up getting 31 points again? LIKE OMFG!!!! I have tried my hardest and i regret nothing but what if it isn't good enough :( My future that I've dreamed of is on thin ice. I don't exactly want to go into the bridging course because of one point, but then again I couldn't argue with them...

I wouldn't like to be placed into the bridging programme, but then again it would be way better than not being in university at all! Also all my friends would probably be like :wtf: wtfff?? why didn't you get into the proper degree course?? So I also don't want to disappoint them :(

I am not an A student and I definitely not a person who would sacrifice my life for academics or redo matric all over again for a couple marks, but all I want to do is write! I am definitely not asking for any pity from anyone, but I need some SERIOUS advice. I am most likely over thinking everything I haven't slept properly in over a week and all these "all nighters" for studying have made me a little twitchy!

What do you think I should do?

PS: Sorry for any grammar/spelling errors I wrote a Shakespeare and Novel paper today and I'm all out of fancy vocab

Take it from me you do not need to be a genius to get a degree, you just need determination and discipline. If what your going to study is your passion, then go for it, and if you can study in a place that you enjoy, then really go for it. Bridging courses help set the foundations and are not their to penalize you. If you have to do one, then accept it as part of your studies.

Just remember that education is the only nobody can take away from you so all the best.

So what if you take an extra year to complete your degree - it's still a BA (they won't mention you took a bridging course) and based on your info, you will be accepted regardless. At least you won't work as hard as everyone - by comparison. If you actually short one point at the end, talk to the dean - it tends to work. Do you have a plan B and C, though (other unis)?

Not to sure whether I understand you correctly but here goes....

I think you are putting undue stress on yourself. Just go full out and do your best and worry about it later. You are currently stressing about a decision you MIGHT have to make. Rather conserve your energy and your state of mind and focus on the now. When the day comes and if you end up with 31 then cross that bridge then... not now.

From personal experience, I know a year sounds like a lifetime but believe me it is nothing. I did the army and study thing after school, worked a bit then back and studied again at 27 (part-time) and went back again when I was 33. Went bankrupt at 36 and retired 5 years later. So the long and the short, if you have to do that bridge year then do it, a year is nothing. There is a lifetime ahead of you. And don't worry about what others think, it's that kind of thinking which leads a person down the wrong paths. Do what your heart and your head tells you to do.

It sounds like you know what you want and also what you need to do to achieve that.

Thanks Yagami! I actually never considered talking to the Dean! But first thing is first to just wait for my results :)
