Unlocked the 5G connection today

so i got the 30mbps 5G package delivered yesterday and so far can say that i'm thoroughly impressed. getting 30 down and 30 up with a ping of about 10ms. for some reason though the google speed test gives me speeds of 3 up and 3 down?

Interesting, maybe they do what Netflix does with fast.com but with youtube's CDN, and therefore its being caught in the streaming filter

Edit: clarify, maybe Google uses Youtube servers for the speed test, and that is being caught by the streaming limits

The last two days have been horrible for me, making it so difficult to work from home. from yesterday morning (31 March 2020) I have been having connection issues on 5G. every hour or so while on 5G the internet connectivity would stop for all devices in my home. restarting the router would sometimes help but noticed that only when its running on 4G does it not have any issues. On the 5G Premium plan but literally hoping it stays on 4G just to be able to continue working. Tried getting support to help but that has fallen on deaf ears. Anyone else experience anything similar?

Seems like those on the Standard Package seems to be having the most consistent experience right now.

I'm also working from home and have been working on vodacom 4g before getting rain. on vodacom i had better download and upload speeds but our systems were soooo slow going through VPN. now i'm on Rain the experience is much better tbh.

Same thing happens to me. I even know the exact time it kicks in. So every hour, at 7 minutes past and 35minutes past e.g(15:07 and 15:35) 5G turns off for atleast a minute then boots up again. Everything goes back to normal after +-4min. I forced myself to figure out the solution to this since I love playing online. My solution is not 100% but When I know how to deal with it, I will post here again.

Connection feels weird today as well. Speeds are also around 40-60 Mbps midday, but return to 150+ after 5-7 pm. The upload however dropped from 10mbps to 1mbps
Might be that the network is busy during the day with people working from home

Hi Guys,
I just want to find out from you guys that get speeds higher than 200meg on rain 5G, i get consistently 800meg.
But on steam downloads i only get 200meg max, note that this is downloading to a NVME drive, and i have seen steam download at max line speed before.
just wondering if i am the only one seeing this. Wondering is it is enforced by rain or by steam

I received my rain 5g package and activated aim today. On the optimiser site it reports that I have good signal but for the love of me the site keeps telling me the "router is not connecting as well as we'd like"
I have moved the router up on the roof, still get the same message, is there something in the settings menu I need to change maybe?

Do you find that latency bothers you in your online gaming, or is it good enough ? :)

If i'm not mistaken you need at least 80mbps to activate ,I played with some of the settings , but it didn't really yield anything positive ,

Yeah you need at least 80Mbps but what a day I had. Been on the roof most of the day. I'll contact Rain to maybe send out a technician otherwise I'll just cancel and stick to Telkom LTE

Could be with the lockdown the tower is congested, maybe try at 2am if you desperate enough :)

So for the last week my Rain 5G will have a few hours of good 5G and then it eventually changes from good 5G to no 5G and back and forth until it eventually gets stuck on 4G for anywhere between minutes and hours.

Rain support on myBB PM'ed me about it and I gave him my acc details and logged the issue on 31/03.
Support emailed me 02/04 and said they tested it and saw good signal.
2 hours after the email, I still had the problem and I informed them about this but I've received no further info.

Now this is what I've been dealing with since last night. It's laughable.
Rain 5G Speedtest 6 April.PNG

I tested it yesterday and the speedtest was 320mbps and tested it again 10 seconds later when it lost 5G and it was 0.3mbps. It's almost unbelievable you can have 300+ mbps for a bit and then get stuck with this disaster.

Same problem, except our upload tanked almost to nothing, while the download is anywhere between 7mbps to 100 mbps. Rain support is busy with me via email, so lets hope we an sort this issue.

After speaking to Yusha from Rain yesterday, he advised that I point the CPE East of the blue dot.

Still going to keep my Telkom LTE for the days Rain is acting up.

@11Snowman11 did you get any feedback from Rain support ?
So far all they've done for me is do a speedtest and roll back the router firmware but I'm still here typing with a 3 Mbps connection that keeps disconnecting the whole day.

They send my case to the technical dept. Indid a factory reset. Did not work at first but after around an hour the signal picked up and speeds were mostly back to normal

I thought I should circle back to this post, after months of fast internet I made the painful decision in mid May to switch over to Fiber. Since the lock down started the 5G Premium service I had serverally degraded to the point where I could not hold any work Team's meetings without having to restart or reposition the router throughout the day. After numerous support calls and requests I gave up and signed up for Fiber. Fiber set up took place within a week, really impressive. Loving the stable connection. Rain 5G service cancelled as of the end of May. Terrible User feedback.

As a comparison this is the kind of speeds I got towards the end..
