Unlocking learning

This is a great opportunity for SA. Negroponte is correct in saying that we all learn by doing when we were young. We dont need to pump millions/billions into training and skills development, though some training/skills development would be necessary to start the process (even a bushfire needs a spark to begin, thereafter it will spread "automatically").

The SA govt should not think twice about this. My suggestion is start with all school age kids in Gauteng, maybe your primary school kids first. It is just more likely to succeed in the urban environment initially than in the rural areas.

Think of all the possibilities: It would greatly enlarge the number of peopel with computers, thus increasing the market (and thus demand) for internet access. It would be cheaper than cellphones, and with the right software and internet access, would create demand for VOIP. If all primary school children in SA are computer literate, it would drastically boost SA's skills base in 10 years time. There are so much more that could come from this.
