UNLOCKING MY CELLPHONE...

Buy whatever the Cape Ads equivalent is in Joburg/Pretoria (I think it's called Junkmail). And search for people that offer the unlocking service in the cellphone section. Good luck.

I was under the impression that cellphone companies were not allowed to sell network locked cellphones?

I bought my phone second hand. It is DEFINATELY locked. I have a vodacom sim that works in my old phone but not on my 6234. It says 'sim card registration failed'. Is there not a site where I can download FREE unlocking software? Virgin mobile internet is HEAVY shaped and k.a.k slow!

Would be interesting to know if the phone came in from another country, buying it second hand means you can't be sure where it came from. I would suggest at least picking up a pre-paid MTN SIM and testing that as well. Otherwise just go to one of the cell shops that do unlocking.

The phone had preinstalled Vodacom screensavers, intros, and wallpapers, which means it was originally a Vodacom phone, and technically it should work with another vodacom sim? What else can cause my phone to say "sim card registration failed"? I googled it to death. Only sim locking makes sense.

sim card registration failed

Its when you phone does not verify Sim.

Meaning it does not read correct. So they cheated you:D

Where did you buy it from?

I bought the damn 3G phone for R500 at an Indian shop. After pushing the price down significantly of coarse. It works with my Virgin Mobile sim, so it can read sim cards, just not Vodacom ones. Not sure bout MTN.

Go to www.sjc-nokia5800.blogspot.com,
there's a section about debranding the 5800 xm, and it includes a link to some software called JAF, this software allows you to debrand or sim unlock any phone, download the software, then just google the unlock procedure.
If thats too complicated, look for a rapidshare link (i dont have it) for a program called phoenix. It's the official nokia tech software to work on all their phones.

As always, read first and dont rush..

Your phone is blacklisted on Vodacom.Any Somali can flash the imei for you.:D

...and then it can never be blacklisted again

If one network blocks it, doesn't it also happen automatically with the others?
