If you do enough lunges in the gym, you wake up the next morning feeling like you were hit by a train ! :)

I thought there were quite a few gym/fitness threads, but my search came back empty

Lunges are extremely energy sapping, especially if they are done with weights.
Lunges are second only to squats IMO.

I always struggle to wake up the next morning after a serious leg workout.
It's as if my body needs an extra hour of sleep to recover.

I was on holiday and had flue.Went back yesterday. I feel like the train ran over me reversed and came back for more. :( But i'm back in the saddle, the low carbs thing makes me have very little energy... but i'll keep going.:D

And the point of doing too many lunges?

Lunges are good for working the upper legs and butt.

To many lunges imply that I did quite a lot and now I feel it every time I walk or get up from a chair!

I dont't do them with weights at this stage.

I'd rather train twice as hard instead of adjusting my diet too much.
Dieting = misery!!!

I read lounges. Lounges sound like more fun.

I struggle to sleep after doing gym, even if I do it in the morning at 7am - I can't sleep that night.

My body's temperature stays hot, and I have a slight sweat the entire day - when I go to bed, I turn the airconn on, which drives my girlfriend insane as its freezing already :p

Your legs have the largest muscles in your body.

Training your legs hard has benefits that go beyond shaping them
and making them strong.

In fact if you want biggger arms, you should probably train legs!!!
This is due to the amount of natural growth hormone released by training legs.

"Here's why: the largest muscles in your body are found in your lower body -- your glutes and hamstrings. By strength training these muscles, your body generates an enormous quantity of growth hormone. Once this growth hormone is circulating in your bloodstream, it actually enhances the growth of muscles throughout your body. In this way, working out your lower body actually helps you build more muscle mass in your upper body and gives you a much more balanced, healthy, fit look. "

This is the same hormone that keeps you:
1) Looking young.
2) Gives you a strong immune system
3) Decreased body fat percentage
4) More toned look.

So training your legs is very beneficial! :)

You dont have to train with weights to get a quality workout.

Try and include squats into your routine and dont forget to train the back of your leg as well i.e. hamstrings and calves.

You've got a good personal trainer then! :)

I have this love-hate relationship with my leg workout day.
Hate having to do it but love the feeling of a good leg workout afterward.

Yeh - need to loose 30kg asap. Between gym and muaythai it shouldn't take long :p

I think you missed my point, whats the point of over doing lunges when you should rather be doing squats.

http://www.pponline.co.uk/forum/personal-best/squats-vs-lunges

I've trained with many sport stars (local and international) and am fully involved in many sport related discussions etc. I can guarantee you that overdoing any excercise will actually deplete your GH level (nevermind the other negative effects)

You tell me:( But i'm doing both...

Just keep in mind that carbs are actually beneficial for you.
Try to keep you carb intake to complex carbs and not simple sugars.
i.e. sweet potato instead of pastries/sweets.

Taper your carbs off towards the end of the day and remember to cheat
your diet at least once a week.

Looks like your body's thermostat is broken LOL.

HIIT - High intensity Interval training!!!

There is nothing quite like HIIT.

I think you missed my point, whats the point of over doing lunges when you should rather be doing squats.

I agree squats is a much better overall exercise - close to 2/3 of your body muscles are in action to perform the exercise.
Lunges is also a really good exercise! Its extremely difficult to overtrain your legs! *serious*

That said every workout should have the correct post workout nutrition to speed up muscle repair.
Whey protein shake is really good post-workout.
