Hi Guys,

I would appreciate some help in getting the Filmefy/UnoTelly region switching sorted.

I have changed my network DNS settings on my AppleTV, iPhone and my ADSL router network DNS setting to that of a US Unotelly global server. Netflix US and AppleTV US are both running like a charm. For the life of me I can't switch to another UnoTelly region to watch movies. It is as if the Dynamo settings is ignored and I am hard wired to the US.

I have to use the US UnoTelly server as I am using a US AppleID and had problems with the App store if I used a SA Unotelly server.

Any thoughts?

UPDATE:

I got it working! Don't know exactly what I did, but it seems to be working.

Could it be that the UnoTelly Server DNS must be specified for the wifi network on each device and not only on the ADSL router?

Dynamo sometimes takes a few minutes to filter through.

To make it reflect immediately instead of browsing to www.netflix.com I browse to www2.netflix.com.

It will refresh eventually, but if you need to have it quick, you sometimes need to restart the device, for the DNS settings to take affect. Or on PC, you can flush dns.
Also, on the dynamo app, make sure to change under the Netflix option, that seems to work better for Netflix than under the Channel 1 or 2 option. For me anyway, could be placebo.

Quick way i found to switch it in Netflix is to simply switch to another netflix profile. Then it reloads everything and don't have to restart device

I found that I also experienced this issue sometimes when the UnoTelly DNS servers being only set on the router.

I then decided to update the DHCP config on my router to give each device the DNS servers. In essence, my networked devices on longer ask my router to resolve urls, they can ask the UnoTelly DNS servers directly. Since I did this, I never experienced the issue again.

This sucks! I got it working, but now I am battling again.

I tried www2.netflix.com as suggested and also restarted all devices AND router, no luck.

To make matters worse, I am also battling to open my iTunes Store. All my websites seems to have a DNS problem and loads forever. Could this perhaps be due to the Seacom issue?

I am only using the Netflix setting on Unotelly and Channel1 and Channel2 are both set to OFF. Could this perhaps be the issue?

I guess DSTV is laughing about all the issues so they can keep milking us. My accounts DSTV account has been cancelled, so I need to get this working asap.

Any other services that I can use apart from Unotelly?

I would like to replace Unotelly, as I am having too much trouble with the service. Waiting too long to switch regions and it seems as teh reason to my entire browsing speed being negatively affected.

Which dns servers are you using with unotelly?

I have been using the SA servers, but also tried 2 US servers with the same effect.

The US servers seesm to have speed up my website load issues, so that helps. Netflix however is still dead and stuck. Can't switch to the regions that show as valid for a movie on Filmefy.

I have gotten into the habit of restarting my Apple TV from the General menu every time I change regions on Unotelly.
More often that not I'll get a strange message if I do not.

Hi Adrian, can you pls give an example of how you configured the DHCP setting on your router? I also only have the UnoTelly DNS servers set on my router, but I am having problems with the PC that I use to cast ShowMax. I suspect it is because of the UnoTelly DNS servers, so I want to exclude this PC from using the UnoTelly DNS server. Looks therfore that I have to go the route you are suggesting, but I am not sure how to configure the DHCP settings on the router. Thanks in advance!

I don't think my solution will solve your ShowMax issue as each DHCP device is getting the same UnoTelly DNS Servers. I can't specifiy different DNS servers per device on DHCP.

But I might have a solution for you regarding your PC that you use for ShowMax. If it's a Windows PC, you can easily set DNS servers on that PC and override the DNS servers coming from DHCP. That way, your router will still give your PC an IP address and will be able to connect to the internet, but it will use it's own DNS servers bypassing UnoTelly and SHowMax will work fine.

Try the steps here. AT the end you will put in your IPSs primary and secondary dns servers.

Why are you not using the South African Dynamo DNS servers?
