If yes have you ever though of playing online?

Hello

I still play lots of old games and cant seem to find local servers. But among my list is Unreal tournament 1999, HALO 1 and quake 1-2...The list is longer but dont have time to type everything. I'm not very good because I have been playing on my xbox lately so lost my mouse fingers. If you play on xbox live add me as a friend. My gamertag is slushpuppyZA
 
Geez! :D Now that's a blast from the past. That was a gr8 game and the maps were awesome. Must dust mine off and have another run, me thinks. Unless there are local servers, the latency will kill me :rolleyes:
 
Well I guess if one of us has a fast line we could always host. But games back in those days were not so BANDWIDTH crazy...I mean Halo 1 I can host for 4 players(including me) on my 384k line. Try with more than 2 people on halo 3 and your line dies with lag.

yeah exactly!!

Problem comes in when you host and people don't have relevant maps etc, so the guy who hosts should have 4mbit line so he can upload the data to the users at a decent speed

I wanted to sign up for a 4mbit line but I thought against it since it will cost more money to revert back to 384 If I find the line speed to be sheit..

I was thinking of going the NEOTEL route...

Our neighbour has the NEOFLEX 5gig packages and gets 600k+ upload/download and ping times under 100ms to joburg...Currently my DSL ping time to joburg is 80ms ON DSL so I am little dissapointed that a solid line performs worse than the Wireless. Either I upgrade to 4mbps solid line or get NEOTEL...The PRICE is almost the same so I was wondering if anyone has suggestions on this...Also Does anyone still play COMMAND & CONQUER GENERALS or EMPEROR BATTLE FOR DUNE?
I have lots of online games that I would like to play at least once before they go into storage FOREVER...
 
My son is currently playing it, but online seems too be a problem, most servers time out or crash out! So we have resorted too playing LAN!

hello

the reason they time out and crash could be (from my experience)
A. You don't have the latest patch
B. The maps are being downloaded from the server, and because your connection is perhaps a little bit slow they rotate to another map before you're finished downloading it, but be warned! If he wants to play it online you need unshaped ADSL account from Afrihost

Or from any Verizon ISP

Seems that we are getting a couple of people maybe we should change this to the CLASSIC GAMING thread. I dont know if anyone plays QUAKE LIVE. They have South african servers up and running that are quite nice and you can always find people on them. Nice thing is that QUAKE LIVE is free so anyone can play.

Aaaaah those were the days....UT99...
And the mutator concept was just the bomb. You could change just about anything in the game using various different mutators. there were a few really cool ones back then.

I also play Quake Live, quite regularly.

yes mutators are great fun

there are stil thousands of people who play this kind of game online

mostly pros..
I want to test my skillz with local players but don't want to rape noobs who are new to fps games
 
I wouldn't call myself a noob but I got XBOX fingers now...But I did play unreal tournament on the Dreamcast, playstation 2 and PC...Dreamcast is still fun to play 4-player split screen. I know that this might be far fetched but does anyone play DAIKATANA deathmatch...I hate the game but actually found the deathmatch to be fun...Or ACTION QUAKE 2 and SHOGO:MAD those are also some great games.

I know about this game - saw the review and wanted to buy it so bad but the score put me off from ever trying it.

I think its from the same developers as Deus Ex (Ion Storm) or otherwise I can't remember why I wanted to play it hehe

The Problem with it was that it came out way too late. Like 3 - 4 years too late. Would have been a good game if released sooner but ended up being crap because games moved on to something bigger. Deus Ex that brings me back...Has anyone played ANACHRONOX? Apparently very good also made by ION STORM...

I just want to make sure I have the right version...Also I have just tried out a program called RAPTR...It came with my RED FACTION GUERILLA install and it has a good way to add friends and see what people are playing...
