Unrest, Rioting In Jhb

We have more serious crime. The police should really not be wasting their time going after the small time street vendors only trying to make a living.
I suspect this was as a result of the police continuously harassing the vendors. I recall reports where the confiscated goods repeatedly end up missing or the police soliciting bribes to return the goods. People got fed-up and retaliated en-masse, and the police suddenly found themselves with the shoe on the other foot.

Mashaba thinks this is part of a tactical plan that will lead up to the ANC tabling a vote of no confidence in him.

"Brand owners".
Oh, Jesus.

That press release is pure insanity. The SAPS are extremely proud that none of its members were injured while being completely oblivious to their failure to protect the paramedic from sustaining serious injuries. There exists a total disconnect from recognising that their duty was to protect the paramedic. Not to prevent themselves being injured.

Got it, when you let your twitching a-hole pull you back

Yes. When the fear you feel, hasn't been overcome by training as it should've been. When your equipment is woefully inadequate. When you trust your team as far as you throw their fat asses.

That's when you advance in a rearwards direction.

Gives new meaning to Alien Invasion. Eat your heart out Steven Spielberg.

Foreigners are being blamed, but I doubt it is exclusively foreigners. I bet the great majority of rock throwers are South African.
90% of street vendors in Joburg CBD are foreigners and those who sell counterfeit goods are all foreigners. I have never seen a local selling counterfeit goods in Jhb CBD.

Try talking to them. Not everyone with a dark skin is a Nigerian.

I doubt anyone would argue for the selling of counterfeit goods. The problem is the manner in which it is getting policed in the CBD.

Had they opened fire and gunned the criminals down it would have been called a "tragedy" again.... Then some kind of commission would be established to determine why the police was negligent and criminal and compensation paid to the "protesters"

Sad but true no wonder the police don't shoot to kill anymore.

Where the hell did they find rocks. It's cbd. Is the pavement or road skirts so bad?

In the early 90's with the Taxi strike I saw them rip up paving, have youngsters bring them bricks from all over. Half bricks were it!

Was quite fun to see the cops hide between the taxis, brick throwers trying to get at them until somebody twigged - Those are our taxis. Wait! Stop!

Also saw how useless tear gas was. Yet two guys with dogs on long leashes did wonders. :sneaky:
