Unstable wifi (mweb)

Geez just run a cable through the roof to your room. They cheap. Do it once and save yourself a lot of frustration and further costs.
Can't believe that people that love to game, still try wifi.

It isn't just gaming. It affects all devices. If it was only affecting me (since I am the only 1 who games) then I wouldn't mind. It affects my sibling's online classes and general browsing and media playback.

Then run that same cheap ethernet cable to your room or close to your room in that part of the house and connect another router, access point or mesh system to it to boost your signal in the rest of the house.
Also I am not an expert but as I understand it, its better to connect to the 2.4ghz signal than the 5g if you struggling

One thing I do have to ask, could it be my router settings that might be wrong? Am thinking of calling them again however I don't wanna waste my time just for there to be no result. Another thing is that the instability depends on the day. Some days it's completely fine while others (most) is unstable AF

You asking the wrong person, I have no idea how to change settings. All I know when somewhere in the house where wifi goes through many walls from the router, I connect to the 2.4ghz as its much more stable than the 5g

WiFi over distance, especially with walls between is bound to be unstable and high latency.

Get a mesh system or run a LAN cable.

Mweb isn't the issue, that's been established by you plugging in the ethernet cable.

I know it's been quite a while (and I don't really like reviving death threads) but here is what I found out.

1. I changed my router to ANOTHER router (some tp link one) and the instability did not get fixed. It was actually worse than before.

2. It isn't a constant problem. The problem varies from the time of day. Some hours it'll be absolutely normal while others it'll be unstable AF

3. This seems to be a problem with MWEB. The reason I'm saying this is that a few friends and family members that use MWEB are having the same problem. Unstable Wifi. Almost like it goes off for 20 seconds and comes back.

4. For me running an ethernet cable simply doesn't make sense. Nearly all devices that use the wifi are phones and tablets.

5. Canceling my MWEB plan just would not work since my siblings and I need internet 24/7 for school.

You only use the Ethernet to confirm the problem remains.

If the problem goes away over Ethernet then the problem can’t be Mweb.

I will try again. But I'll use it for an entire day instead rather than 2 hours. Still frustrating that I (as a customer) have to all this bs. smh

Well if your local WiFi is buggered it has nothing to do with Mweb and your being a customer is completely irrelevant.

At what time of day does it happen? Does it happen consistently at roughly the same time?

You should look into a mesh Wi-Fi system, preferably with Ethernet backhaul between the nodes.

That's the thing. I can't really give a specific time. Some days it'll be the entire day. Others it'll be maybe 12pm. Sometimes even 11 pm. It's not consistent at all. One thing I do remember now is that this only started at the beginning of 2025. It never used to happen previous years

Earlier is was established that you have fibre. So if you wifi is the issue, the solution is the test with a ethernet cable during the problem time.

If the ethernet internet is stable, the issue is your wifi signal (interference from a source like microwave) and not a MWEB problem.

If the ethernet internet is unstable too, then MWEB is your problem.

You test with ethernet when the issue arises than you can determine if it's the wifi or the ethernet

I'll definitely try again when I got time. However let's say the problem ISN'T MWEB and it's on my side, would changing ISP fix the problem?

If it's on your side, then switching ISPs would not fix the problem
