Unusual objects over Joburg

Na its the aliens comming to get the world cup tickets they decided to fly them selves from america where all aliens land because the commercial flights were to expensive

if i look towards the sun, all i see is a frikken bright light....

There are only about 2 or three visible at the moment - if you look in the direction of the sun for about a minute - down from about 20 at 1 pm. Definitely not flying-ants, much larger, but the flying motion is similar (erratic), therefore not birds. Any experts on locust behaviour out there?

On reflection and having done some internet searching they may have been hummingbirds. This would explain the high reflectivity and colourfulness (green wings and red back) and also the unusual flying methods. Seems like many birds migrate at this time of year and often gather in swarms before doing so. Hummingbirds apparently migrate too.

ITs not the tickets its the vulcano. PPPFFFFT!!

OP, how are you expecting anybody else further than a 100m radius of you to see a hummingbird between you and the sun?
:wtf:

:D Murray they were very high up, about 20 or more of them for over 2 hours and moved wide distances around what seemed to be the focal point of the sun. Other comments in this thread show that they were visible in Parktown too

No, what I was seeing was no more than roughly 50m above me. I just think that these bugs were so widespread that the phenomenon could be seen from different parts of JHB. I definitely don't think the very same objects that I was viewing could be seen from Sydenham. We'd need to be talking about something the size of a 747 at cruising altitude for that to have been possible as opposed to something the size of a winged insect.
