At the time of posting if you look in the direction of the sun over Joburg you can see small flying objects high up in the sky, slightly reflective. They have been there since 1 pm or earlier. Some of them are flying at a lower altitude and they seem to be flapping. The closest ones I have seen can only be described as locusts (translucent greenish wings, and reddish back), however I have never seen locusts so high up and flying in seemingly circling patterns - also no other birds feeding on them.

Anyone else see this or know of locusts in the area and behaving in patterns like this? I would have posted images if I had a camera - sorry. My location is Sydenham, near Orange Grove, Johannesburg.

some people will blame the government for the appearance of the unusual objects !

They're white in colour, some of them did reduce their altitude.

They appear to be birds, you can see them flap their wings at lower altitudes :D

Parktown area.

Well I took a look and yes, I can see what appears to be literally insects of some description. Could be locusts I guess but looks more like what I know as "flying ants" (not sure of their proper name). When you say "in the direction of the sun", to me it appears as though it's merely the sun reflecting off them and making them easier to see in that region. They're obviously all over the sky.

Damn, I was hoping the aliens where landing.:D

MyBB members must really be bored to post of sightings of birds, locusts and flying ants.:D

OP here. They are still there. Can anybody with a camera get some pics?

They are definitely larger than flying ants, and yes probably all over the sky but more visible when you look near the sun.

This may be boring to some people, but unusual natural phenomena like this are often linked to important changes in weather and environment - unless this is common which I am hoping someone will know?

Sorry mate, I'm cameraless and my phone camera isn't going to cut it.

Has anyone else seen these insects? This thread is a perfect example of how every thread in Current Affairs gets turned into goverment bashing.
