Middle-earth: Shadow of War hits this August

Middle-earth: Shadow of War, sequel to Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, hits Aug. 22 on a slew of platforms, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced this morning.

The game is coming to Xbox One, Project Scorpio, Windows 10 PC, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro. Shadow War will also be an Xbox Play Anywhere title.

Shadow War, first rumored over the weekend, will bring back Talion and Celebrimbor, who return as the Bright Lord as they go behind enemy lines to turn all of Mordor against the Dark Lord, Sauron. The game will also expand the popular Nemesis System found in Shadow of Mordor, introducing entirely new stories of loyalty, betrayal and revenge, according to the press release.

Zelda: BoTW is releasing on Friday at launch with the Switch, and for Wii U. Early reviews are suggesting that it's a masterpiece.

Edge gave it 10/10 - only the 21st perfect score in their history.
Gamepro gave it 94/100 - the second highest score in their history (behind GTA IV)

Can't hold my breath for Zelda Breath of the Wild!

Yea the Switch launch and first year are really strong. There aren't a whole lot of games directly at launch but BOTW, 1&2 Switch, Snipperclips (this game looks so cute), Fast RMX, Shovel Knight - some really great titles; and of course BoTW is definitely going to be one of the best reviewed games of the year.

The result, for all the longevity of its series and the familiarity of the open-world genre, is a game that evokes feelings we haven’t known for 20 years. Not since Ocarina Of Time have we set foot in a world that seems so mind-bogglingly vast, that feels so unerringly magical, that proves so relentlessly intriguing. Plenty of games promise to let us go anywhere and do anything; few, if any, ever deliver on it so irresistibly. Nineteen years on, Ocarina is still held up as the high-water mark of one of gaming’s best-loved – and greatest – series. Now it may have to settle for second place.

And then still to come in 2017 - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, Xenoblade 2, Mario Odyssey, Dragon Quest XI, Arms, Skyrim, Yooka Laylee - that's seriously impressive for a first year, esp for a Nintendo console. I remember when the N64 came out it was so slow for the first year.

I don't see how it's a strong first year at all. It's basically one game - Zelda - and a really solid re-release of Mario Kart. Mario Odyssey looked awful in the Switch event, but hopefully Nintendo will either improve it or give it a better showing if it is indeed an awesome game. Splatoon 2 is probably a good one too if you're into the franchise. All the other games are gimmicks and pretty unimportant re-releases.

I'm not saying it's a disastrous lineup, but it's far from really strong. While I have high hopes for the platform, I have zero interest in investing in it at this stage.

I'll probably wait until the first hardware refresh occurs. Nintendo doesn't waste too much time making their handhelds better, and the next iteration will at the very least probably have better battery life and smaller bezels.

You think Mario Odyssey looked awful, really? I mean, it's your opinion but the majority of peoples' response including mine were pretty blown away. It's the first really open 3d Mario since Sunshine, and Sunshine was... a mixed bag, so it's really back to Mario 64 style gameplay. And all the different worlds were so varied and fun looking. I can't wait for that game.

Well, I think 1&2 could be pretty major for casual type gamers, Arms has potential as well but it's an unknown IP; I guess those games will just have to see how well they turn out. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 2 are bigger versions of system selling games, kind of just enhanced ports but bearing in mind that it's taking only a few months to get the biggest games that ever came to Wii U in its lifetime. Then Xenoblade is also a major franchise for Nintendo, Chronicles X was maybe the best game on Wii U for hardcore/JRPG gamers.

But the main thing is that all of those games are coming within the first 7 or so months of the console's release, that's what's so impressive because anyone who owned a Nintendo console since N64 went through huge droughts all the time. I never even got a Wii U because the games were so few between.

It already 'runs' on CEMU but it only gets into the loading menu so far, then hangs before the gameplay.

Hence the soon, know the menu part works. I'm confident they will sort it out though :D

Who here played horizon zero dawn already?
Is it worth getting as a single player?
The youtube videos and reveiws seems to be praising it quite a lot.
I need to get something to play between Ghost recon Wildlands when the rest of the team dont play.

Playing it atm. Theres no multiplayer, if you're looking for that. Awesome game though!

I just bought The Witcher 3 for SP and is looking at Horizon Dawn for the SP as well because the team cant play every night so on the off days I need to keep myself busy :)

So is it worth buying?

Oh yes defintely! Not one regret. Its an action RPG so lots of content to get through.

Well that's sad. It looks fun. :(

It is still early access and Worthabuy is but only an opinion. He compared the game to Settlers, or Settlers 3 to be precise. There are many things that may still be resolved, Worthabuy’s biggest issue is that the maps are unbalanced.

He did state that the game is a good schit game, whatever that means.

At the end, it is better to give constructive criticism to the developers to improve where possible. That is whether they do improve.

I will agree that it is best to wait on the release.
