Just an update I got this morning.
South Africa’s biggest forum. Discuss, discover, and connect with thousands of members.
Well, I for one am very excited about the (real) Gautrain!
It covers a lot of the places I go to regularly - Centurion, OR Tambo, Rosebank - so I am really looking forward to not being stuck in traffic.
So its you in cart 3, hanging down the side there blu??![]()
eish the ticket prices will keep me in my car
We still have to hear what the finalized gautrain prices will be.
Keep in mind that a lot of time (and things happened) between the first statement and now.
The final gautrain price will have to be compared against the cost of maintaining and driving your car from PTA to JHB (toll road fees included).
The other thing that matters a lot to me is the transport (bus) system from the stations to the various secondary destinations.
Does anyone remember a few years back how they used to throw people off moving trains in South Africa?
Don't worry, we will be heavily subsidising the price of the tickets with our tax money to make them more affordable, and to make the system work.
You think the billions spent on getting this thing going was a lot of money ... bwaaahahahahaha ... the cost of keeping it running is going to be far worse.
You'll end up using it because not using it will be way to expensive.
That as well - I don't know whether that is a separate ticket (extra charge) or not, but this is also a factor that people must include.
eg - walk half a block/whole block extra to get to work instead of driving with car and battling to find parking, risking a hijacking/stolen car etc...
The use of electronic smart cards is a proven technology in modern public transport systems throughout the world. Commuters will only need one ticket to pay for a Gautrain trip, a Gautrain feeder bus and car parking. In future, this automated ticketing system will form part of a single ticketing system for all modes of public transport across Gauteng.
A single, electronic ticketing system will further allow commuters from low-income areas to have equal access to the economically active region serviced by Gautrain.
The ANC finally validated the 350 million rand "city" that they built in mpumulanga by having their conference there, i'm sure they can validate something more central easier.
