As you may already know, I am one of the people who has complained to the Adertising Standards Authority about the MyWireless service.

*PLEASE* could everyone do me a favour and run the Sentech speed test, and post your results here, or email them to me if you want to remain anonymous.

Go to http://www.sentech.co.za/speedtest/display_speed.php?speed_selection=download

and choose the 1MB and 2MB tests. Please post your results here. All I need to know is:

a) your package: 128k/256k/512k
b) the results of 2MB test and 1MB test
c) What city you are in.

I would like to tablulate this data and submit it as part of my motivation for why the ASA should give a ruling against Sentech's use of the word "broadband". See other thread for further discussion on the ASA complaint

Many thanks!

Wouldn't an international speed test be more meaningful at this stage? Local is mostly acceptable to me but that doesn't help me since most of my traffic is international .. I expect that probably applies to most users.

The reason I am asking for the Sentech speed test is that it provides the theoretical best possible performace that one could expect. For example, If I complained to mweb that I couldn't access their web site at 56k abut only at 16k, they would take my complaint seriosly and investigate, because the data path doesn't even leave their WAN.

My point to the ASA will be on the lines that the "128k" package cannot go over 93k, the "256k" package only gets 140k, and so on. None of this is even close to the ISPA's definition of what broadband should look like.

Are there any 512k package users out there?

It's an international download, so it serves as a good comparison.[}:)]

OK, now for the bad news: there will be no demonstrations to the ASASA. "We don't do demonstrations" I was told today.

More bad news: Page 8 of their original response is "confidential".

And there is no reply from Sentech about the speeds that users should be able to accept. Not yet anyway.

So far, the results show that the higher packages get more local bandwidth, ok,
but international bandwidth actually seems to decrease!

There are only a few samples so far, so it could be a fluke
but this doesn't look fair?

MyADSL international speeds:
================================================
128kb package: average = 80kbps from 2 samples (60;100)
256kb package: average = 49kbps from 4 samples (35;45;60;55)
512kb package: average = 37kbps from 1 sample (37)
================================================

Big surprise[;)]

Are you going to request a hearing from ASASA? I don't see anything in their response which negates the original comlaints.
