Updating firmware on E220 ?

Anybody that can help me here ?

The latest firmwares should be available for download on the MTN site.

You can check your version by opening the application you use to connect with, not sure with MTN and selecting help, about. I guess.

Thanks very much . Is it possible to "unlock" my Mtn E220 to be able to try a Vodacom sim in it , because atb the moment I am getting full signal HSDPA , and getting download speed of 400k and uploads of 200k , I would of expected a little more with a HSDPA connection .

Check out this thread, about half way down, someone replied to me about unlocking. Seems like a firmware update with the Huawei firmware will remove the lock.

From what I've heard though, it shouldn't be locked at all. Have you tried a Vodacom sim?

I have Gamer , but it doesn't detect it . I am actually now giving up on this s@#t , anybody want a modem ?. The speeds are so ridiculous that I get faster speeds on my Aerosat (dare I say it ) connection at home .

In my experience these modems are not locked, so that shouldn't be an issue. Also instead of using the Voda or MTN dashboard software you might like to consider the generic Huawei software mentioned in several threads in this forum. Cleaner, less clutter, and not restricted to any specific provider (as VMC Lite, for example, seems to be restricted to Voda SIMs and won't accept MTN -- well, mine certainly won't at least!)

Update your firmware and try the vodacom sim again, you don't really need to use the dashboard software. I use mine as a normal dialup modem using *99# as the number to dial (just be sure to remove the pin from the simcard) and the initialization string needs to be: AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet"

Park , I am sorry man , I cant even update the firmware and I have no idea what you are talking about the initialisation string ?

Park I appreciate your help , once I unzip it how do you install it as the file does not detect the modem ?

It should detect your modem, try unplugging and reinserting the modem from/into your computer and run the setup file again.

Thanks once again Park , with the help of ECape (member on the forum) he phoned me and spoke me through your link to download and it seems to be updated now though .

The Vodacom firmware is newer.

Does the 11.117.09.04.00 firmware version not enable the device to do 7.2Mbs?
