I want to upgrade from my XFX 9600GT. What will you guys recomend for about R2000 ? and what can i sell my 9600GT for ?

If it were me, I would buy a 9800GT. They range between R1800 and R2500, depending on what make.

I do know of someone that is selling a SAPPHIRE HD3870 X2 for R1800 (Retail R4000) if you are keen on ATI?

I would think you would be able to get around R700 for your 9600GT, they go for about R1300 new.

The 9800GT goes for around R1400 now. Take a look at (in the R2k range) at the 48xx range, or for a bit more maybe an Nvidia 250/260.

Kinda off topic but...
Does nvidas physX engin play a big role when selecting a gfx(seeing as though newer games support the physX engin) or does ati have a similar technology built into their cards.

Yeah DX10.1 :P

15% increase in performance with supported game, probably the same value for nvidia cards and games that support their physics.

Anyways for 2k....4870 +3

The 9800GT isnt much of an upgrade, if you prefer the green team the GTX260 216 is also an option...there was a special a week or two ago where it was going for R2160 or something...see the co-incident with the numbers? ;)

9800gt - that's not good advice at all. It's hardly an upgrade from a 9600. Remember now you'll be able to get a bit more if you sell your 96 - so you might want to consider going for a 4890 or equivalent nvidia card. But otherwise 4870 is pretty unbeatable value at 2k now.

Here (allowing for a bit of exaggeration :D)

2496.60 ... not bad, I still personally would go the extra 800 for the 4890. But budget talks! If the 4890 was out when I purchased my GTX280 (R5500), I would have saved R2300! Ah well ... at least its a good card! (I can get the 4870 for R2907.00 incl - I love working for a dealer registered company!!)
